Spiral ham test run this evening.

Was looking at some sliced deli ham at the store this evening, we try to keep some in the fridge for sammiches and breakfast and such - we often do grilled ham & cheese with Ramen for dinner, or whatever. I saw it was like... $8.59 a pound and I told The Wife - "Wife, why don't we just get a spiral cut ham and smoke that and I'll package it up and we'll have a ton more for like... $2.49/lb?"

Her response was that she wasn't going to do it, it would be up to me... ummm... "You mean I'll have to smoke it on the smoker?" "Yeah," she says. "Uhhh.... wow, why don't you twist my arm a little harder???" lol

So, picked up a smallish one, about 8 lbs. Threw it on the Weber at 275ºF for about 2h15m, maybe 2h30. Pulled around 145ºF.

Oh my GOD, why don't we do this s*** year 'round????

There ain't a deli ham anywhere that compares to this, fresh off the smoker!

I wasn't planning on eating dinner tonight, but now I'm seriously craving a couple of ham sammiches. Oh well. I'll watch my waistline some other night!

The price of deli meat has become so ridiculous. Cheese too. And with health safety issues lately, why would anyone buy it? Not to mention it doesn’t taste all that great either. I have been buying ham and turkey breast in chunks from Costco for a few years now. It’s their Kirkland brand. The ham is calked “Master Carver”, is usually around 3.5-4 lbs, and is about $3.50 or so per pound. Similar with the turkey. They’re both unprocessed, real chunks of ham and turkey carved off the bone. And very tasty.

Beautiful ham. Looks delish. A ham sandwich is my go to when I’m on the fence on what to eat or am too lazy to cook anything.

I'm a big fan of those Costco hams and turkeys breasts, as well. Fantastic value.

Bonus is you can use the bone to make great red beans or whatever beans you like.

I did vac seal the bones as well. We don't really ever do beans, so I dunno if it'll ever get used, but... well, Boxing Day, The Wife likes to do split pea soup, maybe then.

We've been eating on this all week, it's so much better than deli ham. Egads. Luckily have an 11 pounder to put in on Thursday for Turkey Day to restock and have leftovers for the weekend. Can't wait!
