    Pork prices

Have pork prices dropped. I was in the local grocery store yesterday. They had these huge pork loins that weren’t even marked as on sale. They were well over 2 feet long with a diameter of at least 4 inches. I could have cut a bunch of nice thick boneless chops from one and they were $18.95 for the one I looked at. That’s some cheap nice protein.

Seems like many things have started to come down again - the inflation data certainly suggest that. More to do, but a step in the right direction. So did you grab one of those babies?

No I needed to see how many chops I had in the freezer. It turns out I don’t have any. We’re headed to Abilene Tx tomorrow so I’ll probably check what all kinds of pork bargains I can find at Sam’s club.

    Just got home from Costco.

Pork loins like you described are $2.29/lb. About what they've been.

St. Louis and Baby Back ribs, pack of three, both $2.99/lb.

Boneless pork butt 2-packs at $2.49/lb.

All these I think are pretty in-line with what I've seen for the last few months or so.

I got one of each of those.

Oh, pork belly, $3.99/lb - I think last time it may have been $4.29? I got a 10+ pounder.

Also got a 2 pack of chuck roasts, the most well-marbled ones I could find, 5.5lb, about $6.29/lb if I remember right.

And 3 4-lb bologna chubs at $9.95 ea.

Wife is gonna kill me. Something around 70 lbs of meat.

<edit> Plus a big roll of foil, which is up to $29.99 now, and a pack of 10 of the half foil pans for $9.99. Few other odds & ends. $320 later... dang. Luckily I pulled $80 in cash out of my pocket, so it doesn't look quite as bad when she looks at the bank charge.

I have not noticed much, if any, change in the prices of Costco meats over the last couple of years save for occasional sale prices. I buy mostly beef, but occasionally some pork and chicken. The flap meat is my most consistent purchase and it's been the same $9.99/lb for as long as I've been buying it. Chuck roasts have been consistently priced as well.
One thing I have noticed that I'm not especially please about is that pork belly they carry is no longer skinless.

Costco carrying skin-ON pork belly? I've never seen that there, the Swift-branded ones I've always seen were the skinless, which I am glad of. I don't want to deal with the skin.

I picked a pork but ion sale at Albertsons this morning at $.99 a pound. In our area the meat sales seem to cycle from pork to chicken and beef weekly although the sometimes they will be on sale for two consecutive weeks. I picked up some boneless skinless chicken thighs for $1.99 a pound. Sometimes they will be on sale for $1.49-1.69.

Pork prices, retail, have run in a fairly narrow range for a few years now. In our area, HEB pricing, ribs, both BB and SL were "on sale" once or twice a month at $1.97. This week the flyer has them "on sale" for $2.47, so they're on an uptick it appears. Haven't seen any sales on loin in a while, so no current feedback. That said, we are more rural and HEB tends to charge a bit more. Whenever we venture to "the city" e.g. Austin or it's burbs, the prices are a tad lower on like items.

At least locally there were a lot of sales in the last 2 weeks, but now prices are going back up

We have a grad party for my firstborn coming up in the next coupla weeks... food will be mix of pulled pork, pulled chicken, and venison for walking tacos. Boneless, skinless chicken thighs are 2.69/lb. Insane. Used to be ~$.99/lb. I can't wait to see the price drops others mention.

At my Sam's Club - boneless skinless thighs, which used to be under $1 a pound, are currently $3.48 a pound! I used to use them a ton when I first got the griddle, but I've (gasp!) found myself getting boneless skinless breasts instead, as those are only $2.48. The main chicken I get at Sam's is the big back of bone-in thighs, for $1.38 a pound.

I've not noticed a drop here. Pork loin is about what it's always been, $2.25 or so a pound. Butt's are kinda high at $2.49 or so a pound.

'They' are saying bird flu, which also bumped the price of eggs.

Pork my way has been expensive so we have been eating a lot of beef at 5 bucks a pound for sirloin, chuck and short rib. This is at Albertsons. St louis i got on sale from ralphs at 3.99 a pound. A couple weeks ago I paid 19 bucks for a rack just cuz i wanted wibs. pork butts to high as well.

Here, I am finding pork loin is about where it has always been - maybe $2.25 a pound. That puts a 8-9 pounder in the $18-20 range you saw.

I am seeing still inflated pricing on butts, chicken, and beef, compared to a few years ago. Whole chickens, even somewhere like Sam's Club, are insane. A raw chicken at Sam's will cost me double what they charge for a rotisserie chicken, so I've not been doing many whole chickens here this year, and the rotisserie ring hangs unused on the wall of the garage, until the Thanksgiving turkey anyway...

Chuck roasts are $6.50 a pound or something in that range. Brisket is about $4.50.

About the only way I buy meat these days is if I get something cheaper like bone-in thighs or leg quarters, or find meat on sale. Kroger has BOGO on Boston butts this week for example, and often does it for half pork loins (about 4-5 pounds) and ribs. They will run sales of $2.99 or even $1.99 on brisket, in which case I get 1-2 for the freezer.

City Market (Kroger) had pork butts at $0.99/lb this past week. Costco had Prime briskets back at $4.29/lb after it had run up to $4.99/lb. In general, it seems that prices are down somewhat for commodity items, but prepackage items, even after shrinkflation, have jumped which isn't unusual as everything in So. Colorado is more expensive.

I'm not sure what has happened over the past few years, but Kroger ribs are not half bad. I had to "settle" for some of their store branded ribs once and was pleasantly surprised.

I know this isn’t pork, but it’s a price at least. Publix had choice packer briskets for $2.99/lb today. If I didn’t already have about 40 pounds of briskets in the freezer, I’d have grabbed one.

Kroger had a cpl, marked down and still choice for $3.99. Nope.
