    FINALLY!!!

The Y and i having surgeries made it near impossible to get into the UDS for the last couple of seasons. I have REALLY missed our Shoulder (the pork, not literally OUR shoulders, three of which have been under the knife of Former 49's Ortho, Chad Smalley!) The UDS served us well for over 10 years. but, over time, the bottom is gone. and we're too old to use a UDS anymore, so we bought a PB 5 Copperhead. and we FINALLY broke it in!

Since the BBQ shed is packed with stuff from the garage, moved to make room for the kiln (THAT is a whole OTHER adventure!) We have enough room to store the PB but too much stuff nearby to cook. so we needed a clear day. Today was gorgeous! I fired a bisque fire in the kiln and watched over the Shoulder. and it was SO worth the wait!
We have been hobbling along the last couple of years pretending to enjoy the BBQ from around town and rationing the last bit of home made sauce I made. Now we have put paid to all that and back to our own delish smokiness!

I can't eat much at a time anymore, so I tried to go slowly to really savor. that was NOT going to happen! it was SO good! Isn't it funny how some things you tell yourself you don't miss but when you get it back, you realize how deprived you have been? yeah, that's how I felt tonight!! I forgot to take stills of the Shoulder but I hope you enjoy the Insta vid!

I was in your neck of the woods back in mid/late August and it was 101 those days. The parking lot at Sugar's Ribs hurt our feet it was so hot. Good memories though! Glad you're back to cookin'.

My doctor once chided me for going barefoot in my house (I have diabetes).
I told him that I usually don't keep volcanic rock on my kitchen floor.
(what an idiot - I dropped him)

Seriously, how did we go barefoot when we were kids???

I just got back from a week's visit in Chattanooga up on Signal. Wow, the new parking deck at the airport.

So glad you’re back in the game. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your Copperhead. That pork butt looks gorgeous.

I’m so glad YOU are back. Years ago I couldn’t wait for your next post. I plan to be that way again. I understand the health issues much better now than I did then. The Dr’s down at the senior citizens body and fender shop have done a great job getting me back on the road again. I hope they’ve done the same for y’all. The cook looks great, you’ve still got it! Take care and come back soon.

Congratulations on your cook and welcome back. I'm finishing the last bit of rehab after my ACL repair and lateral meniscal root repair. The rehab isn't fun, but, the surgery and the rehab have made the recovery all the better. Love the cook!!

I never stopped cooking, just wasn't smoking. did a good deal of baking but with my new tummy issues, not really eating as much or as adventurously. not really talking about it a lot, either. but, now I'm back, you'll likely be tired of me, soon!

I confess I've become one of those people who starts getting itchy if I haven't smoked some sort of food in a while. I imagine a "smoker hiatus" of that length was challenging. Glad you're on the other side of it now!
