Personally I get more joy out of custom making something that my guests want, I don't require them to like what I like. I consider it a worthy challenge to make what they prefer. You want fall-apart ribs? No prob, I'll start a rack two hours earlier and wrap 'em in foil and put 'em in the hot box.

One exception- we have a close friend who likes ketchup (catsup, for you who insist on that spelling) on her STEAK. That was too much. I cannot comprehend that one. I make a great steak but she still asked for ketchup after a couple bites. They have never been invited over for steak since. She likes ribs the way I make them though, gentle tug, and no ketchup.

I think I'd be okay with someone wanting ketchup on a steak but my big hang up with guests occurs with well done requests on quality steak. Man, I do NOT get that.

Huskee I agree 100% about pleasing your guests. The whole idea of cooking for them is to give them something they will enjoy and remember.

Cooking anything the way you like instead is sort of like inviting friends over for dinner and then serving them liver and beets!

We had an uncle who put ketchup on everything. But he passed a year or two ago.

How many BBQ sauces have a base of "Ketchup"? LOL

You could always do what my mother always did. Boil the snot outta them first.
She has never known what a sacrilege she had committed.

My mom did that too. Of course I didn’t know then either. As a kid, any ribs were a real treat.

"As a kid, any ribs were a real treat." Jfrosty27 , same here. I could count on one hand the number of times I had ribs as a kid.
