A few weeks ago these two-packs of BBRs showed up at both of my local Kroger stores. Really thick cryovac packaging, and looking like the "extra meaty" BBRs that I hate so much. Except these were the best ribs I have ever bought, grocery store or online. Nice rich red meat throughout and very little trimming required. Around 6 lbs per package.
I have cooked them twice now and they have been fantastic each time. But now I'm down to my last two-pack in the freezer and they are nowhere to be found in the stores. Any ideas?
Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I think I have a pack of those in the freezer right now, and what was unusual about it is that I don't think there was a packer marking of any sort on the Cryovac. I.e. usually its Swift or Excel for these type things, with the other options being Smithfield and Tyson. These packages had no markings - just the meat counter label. I bought 2 packs of them, and cooked one and froze one. They were good ribs for sure, and first baby/loin backs I bought in a few years.
I've just never seen Smithfield products without the word "Smithfield" all over it Sid P . There is no identifying info at all on these, best I can tell.
Have you talked to the folks in the meat department where you bought 'em? That'd be my first stop. Maybe they'll tell you where they source(d) them and you can dial direct...
