In a couple of weeks, I am going to be smoking about 70lbs of pork shoulder for church, do any of you have any tips on how to make it easier then just using claws, I had seen something about using a hand mixer but I figure this is the best place to ask.

Yes, use cheap cotton gloves, then put some thick 6 mil nitrile gloves over them. Nothing works better. Getcho hands in there boy!!!!

Some here put chunks of pork into a stand mixer and use either the dough hook or the mixing paddle to shred it. I haven’t tried it but some swear by it. Would make a big job like that easier I imagine. But as Spinnaker suggests, I always find my hands much easier than claws.

Wow, Texas Larry, that would work. How about putting a butt in a blender and making a BBQ Pulled Pork Smoothy.
BBQ High Protein shake.
Now I am thinking, this could be dangerous, adding a shot or two of 151.

I have been gifted several pairs of claws over the years and never use them. I also know people use a KitchenAid mixer with the paddle to pull pork. However when doing large quantities of pulled pork I find the fastest way, with the least amount of clean up, is to pan the butts in disposable aluminum pans after I like the bark, use nitrile gloves over cotton gloves to pull the bone and hand shred the pork right in the cooking pans, and then serve straight from the pans. Cuts clean up way down. If I need to hold the meat I just cover cover the pans in foil and hold until I need them. Just my way of doing it, and it works for me.

I use claws or large meat forks myself. If I have a lot to do, like 70lbs, it would be the dough hook in my stand mixer. But be careful! That thing can mix it up too much right into mush, you wouldn't think it until you do it. My buddy & I once did a graduation party's worth with our hands and that was ok too, with help.

I noted your comment about making sure the color was blue. When purchasing for our clinics and hospitals we always used blue because it was a ready indicator that it wasn’t a latex glove. We also needed to ensure that its AQL was less than 2.5 (Nor more than 25 defects in 1000 gloves) to maintain a barrier between human blood and fluids. Nitrile itself is food grade so if you are not worried about catching HIV or Hepatitis from your BBQ then any color should do. Just my 2¢.

Donw cool info! Spin & I have an ongoing joke about blue gloves, he hates blue gloves so I always tease him about them. All our gloves at the hospital are dark blue. When they expire they're supposed to get tossed but I snag 'em up to prevent them from being wasted, so a lot of my gloved pics are blue gloves for this reason.

I bought one of these. It goes in my cordless drill. You put a shoulder in a stock pot, then hit it with this. I can pull an 8# shoulder in about 3 seconds.

If you don't have a big stock pot, a food-grade 5 gal bucket works
My niece got my one of these for Christmas last year (great thinking from an 11year old). Works great.
But now I'm thinking, how did it never occur to me to use my stock pot?
Why did I made a trip to Lowes to grab essentially a plastic version of a pot I already own? I'm wondering if my mind classifies all cookware as "for bbq" and "not for bbq" and the stock pot got labeled "not for bbq."

Another vote for the cotton & disposable glove combination. I have used that for 70+ lbs on several occasions. I like it because it is easy to do and allows me to help pick out any undesirable pieces of fat, gristle, etc. that I might miss using the claws or a mechanical device.

I of course love smoked meats of all kinds, but also like quick cooks like chicken portions, pork tenderloins, steak and fish. Really into cooking of all kinds.
My outdoor kitchen has a Lone Star Grillz Adjustable and it is wonderful. There also is a Pit Boss 5 Burner Ultimate Griddle and a Pit Boss Copperhead pellet grill.
There is an outdoor fire pit that has grilling capability and limited Santa Maria-style grill raising and lowering.

Ha ha. I’m even lazier on church cooks. I put a shoulder or half shoulder into a foil pan for each table and pass out gloves. There always seems to be at least one person per table ready for a “hands on” experience and it makes for a good ice breaker to get the table going with conversations.

I use my hands, it makes it easier for me to find the fat pieces and remove them.
Ace Hardware has these.
https://www.acehardware.com/departme...gloves/6204390 and these

I use the black ones, they're both food safe.
