This looks like a slick idea, but I'm not gonna try it. I don't cook or eat enough pizza to justify this.

Actually looks like a good way to make one. I've had plans to build one for years but I just haven't gotten around to it.

Same here, I’ve had the plans for years, but I’m starting it this week. Bought the fire brick 2 days ago, and this week I’ll be making arch forms, templates, the “indispensable tool” etc. I’m going with the dome version. It’s going to be a fun build.
I’m finally going to do it, you should too. Life is too short.

Smoke em if you got em My main issue is I haven't finalized my backyard design so I've held off because I'm not sure where I want it. I have the plan in mind: It will be a corner unit, pizza oven in the corner with a work surface to the left and a built-in Santa Maria grill on the right. I want to make the oven similar to the plans on this site: https://www.traditionaloven.com/Last edited by 58limited; February 25, 2026, 01:10 PM.

58limited - Funny, I almost mentioned that the oven is the last thing in our total back yard makeover and patio addition. I was going to make the base myself too, but the contractor was doing some other cement work, so I had him help me build the base. Although it was more like I helped him. You and I are on the same trajectory!

Nice to hear/see a guy who knows the difference between concrete and cement.
The drawback to his outcome is the ceiling of the oven is too high to reflect enough proportional heat down to the deck. You can see it with the nice leopard spotting on the bottom of the crust but the top is slightly under done
