I came here to say it has them both beat. Now I'll put on my flame-proof suit and slip out quietly.

Detroit Style Pizza! I just discovered Detroit Style Pizza and I will never go back to Chicago Style Pizza. I've been baking 2 of them every weekend for my cheat
This recipe does make a great pie. Never been to Detroit, so no DSP for comparison.

My preference when it comes to US pizza styles is NY, I like traditional Italian pizza so any thin crust style is my jam. Between Chicago and Detroit thicker styles I prefer Detroit since it usually isn't as thick.

One of my best pals is from Chicago and has gone on and on for years about how much better Chicago style pizza is. So while I was there I visited his fav, Geno's East. Not my jam at all. A single piece is like eating an entire loaf of bread. For those who love it, more power to you. I just can't eat that much.

LMAO! Thanks for posting that.
I’ve had Chicago style pizza from the original UNO’s in downtown Chicago and I thought it was good. I’ve had NY style pizza from numerous pizza joints in NYC and thought it was good. I’ve had Napolitano style pizza in Italy and thought it was good. I make primarily the latter at home. When it comes to pizza toppings and embellishments, less is more imho.

As someone who lives close to Chicago, I can honestly say that I basically support any and all pizzas with the exception with anything with peppers on them. We don’t really eat Chicago style that often and usually go with thin crust. But I love it. But I pretty much love all pizza. New York, Detroit, and even St. Louis pizza is all good by me.

SnS 22" kettle, 22" WSM with Pit Viper, 36" LSG pellet pooper
24" Blackstone griddle, 6 Gallon Cajun Fryer.
50K BTU wok burner.
What most people outside of the Chicago metro area don't know is that there are two Chicago pizza styles. The well known deep dish, and the far more common thin crust, also known as "bar style". The vast majority of the time locals are ordering thin crust over deep dish. The arguments over who does the best thin crust run as deep as who has the best fish fry in Wisconsin, or the best cheese steak in Philly. I won't even dip my toe into the hotdog debate, since there is only room to argue who does the second best hotdog after the Chicago dog.

A lot of bad "Chicago" deep dish pizzas have way too thick of a crust. The best Chicago deep dish pizzas are not a very thick crust, just deep dish and have an unusual order for the toppings. My favorite is sausage that covers the entire pizza and is put on raw to cook with the pizza. Here’s one I’ve made (because I don’t have any pics of the real thing).
