Hi, I am going to try Meathead KC Sauce recipe. What brand of steak sauce do y’all like? I’ve never used it, let alone purchased it.

STEAK sauce? My dear, a good steak needs no sauce.
But something we like around these parts, FWIW, on steak is my wife's version of an Applebee's parmesan sauce:

OK I'm confused, do you want a good recipe for a sauce for a steak like you mention, or a standard BBQ sauce like you posted?

Ahhh ok ok ok, I see what you're asking. Mh's BBQ Sauce recipe has "1/4 Cup Steak Sauce" in the ingredients. Gotcha. Please pardon my confusion. You could make an easier BBQ sauce w/o needing to purchase a 'steak sauce' (don't tell Meathead though): https://pitmaster.amazingribs.com/fo...riginal-shawsh
I've always enjoyed Lea & Perrins steak sauces in the past, but it's been many years.

Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I use A-1. That is the #1 selling brand, and the one people think of when they think of steak sauce.
That recipe is my go-to. Everyone I’ve served it to has raved about it, and I’ve had people ask me to make them batches of it. For all the fantastic bottled sauces out there, including Meathead’s and Max’s, this one rules them all.

I rarely use steak sauce, if I do it's Lea and Perrins worsterwasususuamanmjoedinhjojfnshire sauce
A1 I will use only at a restaurant if they overcook their stuff
Never really tried anything else as, well... it's just not my jam

My favorite steak sauce is butter and/or board sauce. None of that A-1 sauce for me. Putting A-1 on a steak is like putting pineapple on a pizza or ketchup on a hot dog.

Kamado Joe Big Joe III, PKGO, PK300, Jumbo Joe and PBC. Weber kettle @ the hunting camp.
I keep W Sauce, both regular and Fireshire, on hand for many needs. It only touches my steak for leftovers. I love the W Sauces.

I would not bother buying a steak sauce you wouldn’t otherwise use just to make this sauce. It’s such a small portion of the total recipe and you’ll be stuck with 3/4 of a bottle of something that will just get thrown out.
I’d probably replace the steak sauce with some added ketchup, Worcestershire and soy sauce and maybe some mustard (and MSG). You can even find a homemade A-1 recipe online and just follow the ratios to get 1/4 cup volume.

Okay, I now realize you are mixing something up, not asking for a good steak sauce which I never use. I do keep an old bottle of A1 in the fridge I use as a prophylactic for food poisoning when I decide to try questionable meats I find sitting in the back of the fridge that I’ve forgotten about. Still tastes about the same as when I bought it a few years ago.😉

To those suggesting Worcestershire as a substitute, Worcestershire is also an ingredient in the sauce.
Making Meathead’s KC Sauce is the only reason I buy A-1 Sauce. A bottle lasts a couple years, easy. Don’t bother with the date on the side; it’s typically 18 months out, but pour a little on a spoon and taste it. It might pick up refrigerator flavors within a year, or it might be good 6 months beyond the date.

Weber Kettle 22; Broil King Signet; OKJ Bronco
I've pondered this same question, and ended up buying a small bottle of A-1 to keep on hand for cooking.
I do not generally like A-1. I keep Heinz 57 on hand for burgers (thanks, Jimmy), but for this recipe, I thought the 57 would be too much like seasoned ketchup while the A-1 has more of that umami taste. I like Shify's suggestion of substituting worcester, soy, and ketchup (may a little balsamic vinegar too?) if you don't want to buy sauce for a single use.
