If a taco salad is a salad with taco stuff in it and a taco has salad stuff in it, and if ham between 2 slices of bread is a sandwich when beef between 2 slices of bread is a hamburger, and a tuna sandwich is called a tunafish sandwich but a perch sandwich isn't called a perchfish sandwich and a tuna isn't called a tunafish then I forgot where I was going with this.
I could make the argument that if you add anything to a hotdog other than mustard and ketchup then it could be construed as a sandwich on some very funny and specifically shaped bread. However, and I've no way of knowing, I wonder were hotdogs, as they are thought of today, originally known as hotdog sandwiches?
I will say they I always felt like I wasn't getting a hotdog when it was served on a regular piece of bread when I was a kid (actually even now). Will be interested to see what folks think.
To this day, I will eat a hot dog with a piece of plain white bread. Mustard only, of course. As kids, we would add a slice of American cheese (the kind is individually wrapped).
SheilaAnn I will still occasionally wrap a hotdog in cheese and munch it down, however, I prefer a bun to a piece of bread. I will admit and stand by proudly and say I add ketchup to to my hotdogs too!
