Meatball Sub with melted cheese. Living near the northwest side of Chicago gives me plenty of options. Rex in Norridge (featured in Triple D many years ago) and Tony’s deli in the Edison Park neighborhood of Chicago are my favs.
but my weekly homemade sandwiches consist of ham and turkey breast on Kroger Sourdough bread with mayonnaise. I go back and forth between Dukes and Hellmans.
Kathryn fzxdoc it's difficult to describe with words, but it's there nonetheless. The only time I experienced outside of family is on a large campaign fire I was on many years ago. We were on the line for over 48 hrs before we got back to the incident base. The base kitchen was not fully ramped up so there was no fresh food. We were going to eat our MRE's, but as we pulled into base there was a Red Cross wagon giving out sandwiches and coffee. They were heavenly!!
My favorite sandwich is one I don’t have to make. I do love a sandwich on a pretzel bun. One that was suggested to me that was a pleasant surprise is tomatoes and peanut butter.
Brisket, lettuce, tomato, mayo. Leftover point. Thin-sliced like thick bacon, pan fried. Any kind of toasted bread substance.
Triple decker club, homemade bacon with leftover ham and turkey from Thanksgiving.
Is pizza folded in half considered a sandwich?
Pulled pork with homemade BBQ sauce, chipotle slaw and topped with a sliced grilled jalapeno cheddar sausage - on a grilled ciabatta roll. Add some chipotle mayo, as well. This is the creation of a local food truck, they call it the "Twisted Pig".
Yep leftover turkey on rye with homemade cranberry relish and lettuce. Actually having that today with deli turkey as I made the relish yesterday to freeze for tgiving.

Where does one begin? The ones that immediate come to mind:
- Pastrami on rye with Guldens mustard is probably the GOAT
- The BEC (bacon egg and cheese) on a kaiser roll is the breakfast GOAT
- Sausage and pepper hero is up there (might be my northern NJ upbringing)
- Jamon and butter baguette, especially one eaten in Paris or by a very french store is beauty in its simplicity
- A very buttery/salty grilled cheese with american cheese on white/potato bread is always satisfying
SheilaAnn It is nothing special, just is a childhood favorite when Ships was operational. A Ship Shape and chocolate malt made my day. It is basically a cheeseburger served on grilled sourdough bread, carnalized onions, lettuce, tomato and special dressing (1000 island dressing with relish). Easy peasy.
Bologna and yellow mustard on Wonder bread. Can't remember the last time I had one, but just now thinking about it, I reflexively felt like I had something stuck to the roof of my mouth...
Turkey on Wonder Bread with mayo and enough salt to make it crunchy.
A "Bobbie". So named by a local sandwich shop, but for certain not original to them.
Turkey, stuffing, cranberry on a hoagie (sub / hero to you heathens) roll with mayo.
Wonder bread....ah that brings back memories. My mother would make homemade bread and we had it around the house all the time. But I would ask my mom to buy Wonder bread because it was so much softer than her bread. I know it broke her heart, but hey, kids are selfish beasts. Miss her bread now.
