I liked Subway better before they took the yoga mat chemical out of their bread. Now I can’t stand their bread. (I’m being Serious)
My go to sub of the past was their meatball sub with pepperoni on it. Something about those highly processed meatballs just tasted great to me.
I also loved their Hamburger sub they had way, way back in the day. It was an oval shaped meat paddy that was swimming in a liquid/grease bin that used to sit right by the meatballs. So good!
I like Subway. I don’t think it’s the best option out there but it’s fine. And their steak sandwich is pretty good in my book.
Then again living so close to Chicago we go to our local places for sandwiches. Just so much better.
When I was at Marquette we went to either Subway or Cousin’s. I always preferred Subway and thought the Cousins store was run down. Still ate there because they had fríes instead of chips. Now when I get back to Wisconsin I love going to cousin’s. They seemed to have changed their image from what I remember and it’s very good.
I don’t get to cousins much anymore either even though I almost pass one everyday, but the last time I was there I remember thinking they had stepped their game up.
Subway has a pretty good app that I use fairly often. I travel a lot through Northern CA and it is very simple to pick a store on your route and order one of your favorites. Usually ready in 20 minutes, so I can just cruise by and grab it.
Subway is very near the bottom of my list of chains. I'll eat there if that's what others want but it doesn't do anything for me. Arby's is about one notch above Subway on the list.
I honestly have no idea how the big chain places survive in this state.
2 essentials for a good hoagie (or whatever you Northerners call them):
1) A roll made by an actual bakery, not some glorified ez-bake oven in-house.
2) Meats and cheeses go directly from slicer to sandwich. Pre-sliced just doesn't cut it.
I usually get some once a year. I had Jimmy Johns and that stuff makes Subway not so good. Kinda like Meathead's Mustard Sauce ruined McDonalds Hot Mustard sauce for me.
I get what used to be called the Subway Melt. No garden stuff, add pepperoni, the white cheese, toasted. Either bread.
I do agree with yall that Jimmy John's is very good. I like their Chipotle Cheesesteak. Only problem for me is that ours is so far away, we usually end up DoorDashing it (yeah, I know) and $40 is a lot for two sandwiches.
Every time we have a discussion about a place like Subway or Arby's, we have the people who turn up their noses at such lowly places, and will only eat at their local New York Deli, etc. Subway has a huge advantage for me over New York delis, Jimmy John's, Firehouse, or any other place that makes subs. There are Subways within an hour drive from where I live. At my eventual retirement home I have more choices. But for those of us in rural areas, we are glad for what we have.
Bogy I certainly don't turn my nose up at Subway or the like when it's among the only options available. I am certainly grateful for them as a place where you can get a relatively healthy lunch reliably when traveling
However, I sincerely don't understand the folks who have options available that look like what JCBBQ posted and still choose to go to a place like Subway. It's like Michael Scott going to Sbarro in NYC...
The giant jars of Mayo everywhere at Jimmy Johns gross me out, though.
Really like Subway! Went to the dark side yesterday and got a McRib sammy, darn near spit it out and flushed it with a Subway veggie
OMG that McRib aint right! 😂
I don’t get it. Couple years ago there was a lot of hype about the McRib so I went out snd tried it for the first time. Absolutely disgusting. Never again.
Haven't been in years so don't know if it has improved. But meat was heavily processed and low quality. Beware of food quality in low margin businesses like this. First thing they cut are ingredient quality and staff.
