Purchased huge pc of Atlantic Salmon. Got it home Put in 2 portions. vac sealed the one portion and I put in freezer. The other portion made a great meal that night. Yesterday I thawed the frozen (frozen about a month) as always did a sniff test and it smelt like feces. What the heck? what could have happened? Never smelt anything so foul.

That stinks. (no pun intended)
How long did it sit out until it was frozen? How was it thawed?
If it was chicken I would not have been surprised by the fowl smell. (OK, THAT pun was intended)

I can only think that the freezer failed for more than a day or the fish went bad somehow before you put it in. The other thought is that the fish was starting to go bad and it does take time to freeze and thaw. It has been my experience that funky smells are really exacerbated when I take them out of the vacuum pack.

Yea I would advise avoiding S. aureus, E. coli and spp of Bacillus, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Flavobacterium, Listeria and Pseudomonas, as well as Trachurus trachurus,Scomber scombrus,Urophycis tenuis,Clupea harengus. Geeze I'm getting dizzy, I need to go lay down.
