I had a great time over Christmas, I hope you all did, also.
I had won a 55 gallon barrel smoker last summer in a raffle at a bbq event, decided to give it to my younger brother, who has not ever had a smoker. I already had a PBC. He is in another state, wondered how I would get it to him, I don't have a pickup, he did but not anymore. Finally, I took out the front passenger seat of my Honda Civic, and it fit in the back seat. So, I made it to Iowa (Des Moines) from the Twin Cities of MN with his Xmas gift from me this past week.
My older brother was there from Los Angeles, he is not a bbq guy but he was game to go to happy hour even with the seat out! He is sitting on the floor of the car. Good times!

So for Christmas, younger brother always cooks for the family, he and mom are still in Des Moines. He is GOOD, it has been things like Beef Wellington. Lately, Prime Rib, sous vide, etc. 4 to 5 courses, all different wines. Prosecco, Port, etc, all tailored to the course. This year he had settled on a sous vide recipe, and it was exceptional.
Here is the proud new owner! I can't wait to see what he makes with it.

I made it back to the Twin Cities in the midst of an ice storm. It is usually about a 4 hour trip, this time it took 8 hours. I made it back to one point in 3 hours as usual and then it was all ice. It took 5 hours for the last 40 miles. Most of that was sitting still. Never encountered anything like that before. I don't recommend that, it pretty much sucked. I just underestimated it all. I wished I hadn't had so much coffee while I was driving.
I still make something for Xmas even after being "home" and this year I made one of my favorite dishes, Pastitsio. Never made it before, turned out really well!

All in all, one of the best Christmases I ever had.
