    Cosmic Crisp...

... is supposedly the latest and greatest apple developed. It will be available late next month or Jan of next year. It's supposed to be great tasting with a unique taste, long keeping, and very crisp. It's so well thought of that over 12 million trees have already been planted. I'm lookin' forward to trying it.

OK - I read about them and you have a homework assignment. I honestly expect you to come up with a Cosmic Crisp pork chop recipe. I am thinking of all sorts of ideas - grilling the apples with some cinnamon and slicing thin as a garnish - making an apple sauce side for dipping or a BBQ sauce. You have to be the first to come up with it and I will try it.

My field man gave me a couple last year to try out. Patent is held by WSU (Washington State University) and royalties are collected from trees and packed fruit. I suppose they'll be lowering tuition rates, eh?

I'm not a fan of the "latest and greatest" since someone explained how hard it is for the little guy to keep up.

I saw Cosmic Crisp at Walmart tonight here in WA state. $2.97 a pound, Red Delicious $1.17 a pound.

I always just buy what’s in "the bag" for 3 bucks.

LOL, hey Paisano I got a tour of the packing shed earlier this year, took lots of pics but haven't had time (read: too lazy) to post them. The machine that fills those bags is a hoot, they were packing for TJ's when I was there.

ComfortablyNumb I have always had delicious apples from them bags. I think mostly Fuji apples are in there. Comes to another a buck a pound.

Try smaller chains, (Fresh Market has them in our area). They are large, very crisp, extra juicy, and very tasty. I will buy them again.

I so want to be able to store apple for year. We always seem to be out of apples in Florida.

I tried these. They were OK but nothing revolutionary. They had a good balance of tart and sweet. Probably a bit more tartness than a Honeycrisp. It had a good texture but nothing great.

Overall I prefer the Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or the Juci which I saw for the first time this year.
