What should I make while camping this weekend?

My wife and I are trying to figure out something good to cook this weekend in the woods. We're already going to just do some simple hot dogs with bacon jam Friday night since we won't arrive and set up camp until the evening, but we need something good for Saturday night. Any ideas??? Preferably with the use of a dutch oven.

P.S. I just smoked a pork shoulder and grilled sausage and peppers the other day, so we probably won't be feeling that (we=she).

P.P.S. What are just some things that my fellow pitmasters like to cook while enjoying the great outdoors? pics always welcome

Keep it simple and go with hobo dinners. You can even make those up ahead of time. Sorry, I don't have any pics.

I'm making some classic hobo pies for the lunch/snack time. Great minds.

I was going to answer your question with "Whoopee if she is willing." However I now see you want cooking ideas.....

This one looks complicated, but it really isn't. And it features the Dutch Oven. I don't use an extra pan for the first part - right into the DO. Any beef oriented rub can be used in place of the Dizzy Pig one. You're going to need a surface to work with for pulling etc with this one.

Stuff like this is always perfect for camping. Braise some meat for a few hours and load it up on some buns and indulge with a beer or 6. My kind of meal.

I do a jambalya in a dutch oven over a firepit when camping.

I like this idea. I've never made jumbalaya, maybe it's time I have...

When I’m camping or at the cabin, I’m there to relax. I like to keep cooking really simple when away from my home kitchen. Steaks or burgers for us.

I'm with you on this. Hot and fast cooking foods that I can cook in the dark after a long day of fishing, hiking, hunting, drinking, napping....

We like to dedicate at least one day of the trip as an all day cook sort of day, the rest being lazy and relaxing. Nothing like sitting back in a fold up chair next to a fire with a burger in one hand and a beer in the other.

I'm pretty big on Texas Chili. But I don't really bring a lot when we go camping.

Ya'll missed it, but far right is our "Poo Pod" we call it. We even bring our bathroom! LOL. It is hell getting old.

make a thick stew with beef jerkey, powdered beef bullion, dried mushrooms, dried onion bits, and sundried tomatoes. Serve over noodles. all you need is water.

I was going to recommend bacon and hard tack, but this sounds better.

That sounds like it would make good rations for the troops. Interesting...

CaptainMike ILikePigButts its super simple to make, keeps forever in dried state, and you don't even have to have potable water since you are gonna boil it all down. A stream, a campfire, and a pot.

when I'm roughing it at the camper I still like to whip up a little something...

On a serious note - the jambalaya recipe above sounds awesome. what about a pot roast in the dutch oven?
