Seems everyone is using pink butcher paper but it comes in other colors why Pink? I would think that color would not be important. Please educate me.
Thanks, Dave
This is what I've found. If looking for this paper I think you would look for "untreated" if you can find it.
Peach Treated Paper
"Unlike white butcher paper that shows blood and excess juices, this peach paper hides unwanted stains to keep food looking appetizing! This means that it's perfect for framing meats in your display case. Additionally, the paper is treated to improve wet strength and leak resistance while allowing the meat to breathe when packaged."
"Peach treated butcher paper, also known as steak paper is designed to help keep meat looking fresh while on display! This 12" orange colored paper is treated to help meat keep its color and hide the extra juices that run out of the meat. If you intend to freeze products in peach treated butcher paper, be sure to first wrap them in plastic."

I believe that in order to get the paper white in color, it has to be bleached. I don't know what they use as a bleaching agent, so I'm not gonna cook with that. Treated paper is not described as heat resistant. I'd hate to wrap a prime brisket with treated paper and have something melt onto the brisket. I also would not use kraft paper unless it was FDA approved. It. Just. Ain't. Worth. It!
So the bottom line for me is that I would only use FDA approved paper designed to take high heat. I haven't seen anything but some, (and not all), pink butcher paper that I would use.
