I have an idea. What if we had a topic here on “How I do it”? The monthly drawing shows there are a bunch of people who come here to learn but don’t say much. As an example if you have perfected preparing St Louis ribs on a Weber kettle share your method. You’re trying to help someone with this. Tell how you pick your ribs, what outcome you want, like fall off the bone or bite through. Are you making sauced, dry rubbed only or Korean ribs. Get down in the weeds of the details. Which sauce, rub or other flavoring method you use. What charcoal, smoking wood, grate temperature, and internal temp or other clue do you use to tell how far along your cook is. Do you wrap, with what, how long, in the oven to finish, does it need to rest. Do you use a faux cambro, just your oven, or just cover it on the counter for a while. How do you serve it, or reheat it. Maybe even great leftover ideas. Ribs on my kamado don’t cook like they do on a kettle, PBC, off set, or cabinet smoker. There are so many variables that a simple “How I do it” on my set up could teach all of us something new. There are a bunch of excellent pitmasters here with so much experience on so many different cookers and proteins. Help that newer member (or me) to get the results they want on their equipment much sooner than they would have before.

SheilaAnn You can't really cook by it, since cooking is so long. But maybe play it when it's time to put everything on the table, call people to start serving, or gather together at the buffet line.

I dunno - I like have individual articles or topics for a given cook or style. For instance, I did one recently about my 'pork chunk' method of doing pulled pork. Let me clarify this isn't a technique I invented, it's merely one I adapted over time from things I've learned elsewhere (and here) to achieve the goal - juicy, barky, soft pulled pork in a short time with lots of rub, smoke and flavor.Originally posted by randy.56 View PostNot that's it is a bad idea but, we pretty much have this. With the Show Us What You're Cooking! with pictures. Most give a fairly good description, of the cook and method. Or a link to recipe.
But essentially I had mentioned it a couple of times in other threads and even laid out the technique, but I realized after several people asked that putting in someone else's topic made it much harder to find if someone wanted to go back and find it OR link/reference it for someone else. So I decided to do my own topic on it, so people might be able to find it easier later.
That's the way I see this, really. SUWYC is a great ongoing thread for like-minded and well-acquainted individuals here to showcase and share their exploits (or often failures in my case), but I don't think it's necessarily great for going back to try to find a recipe or technique someone shared 3 months ago, buried in thousands of other posts. <shrug>

Pit Barrel Cooker
Weber Master-Touch
Blackstone Omnivore 4 Burner Griddle
Thermoworks: Signals, Billows, Thermopens, Thermopops, Nodes, bunch of silicone stuff, and more!
OnlyFire Rotisserie w/ Basket attachment for the Weber
Vortex for the Weber
Both of Meathead's books!
Way too many BBQ related accessories, tools, and doo-dads!
Maybe a sticky topic, Show Us How You Be Cooking? With stipulations, like the recipe template?
Mine would be boring. Find Meat. Make Spicy Stuff. Rub Meat. Let Meat Sit. Start Fire! Get Meat. Put On Fire. Crack Beer. Clean Kitchen. Watch Meat App. Crack More Beer. Overcook Meat. Bring Meat In. Cut Meat. Take Meat Picture. Wish Picture Was Nicer. Eat Meat. Clean Rest of Stuff From Meat Cook.

Oak Smoke I had to really think about your proposal based on what I have seen on other forums. I could see the “How I do it” could turn into “How to do it.” Not saying it would happen here but it could if we weren’t careful. However, thinking about it more I see an advantage to maybe making it a sub-channel.
Often I want to cook or do something, remember someone mentioning something similar in some post, and then spending time uncovering that post after a long search. If we had a sub channel that allowed us to group various threads about personal techniques, personal methods, and personal procedures it would certainly be the first place I would start my search and hopefully make them easier to find. Just my 2¢.
