bbqLuv soda is not a term we used growing up in the south. It's another one of those regional things. I don't think we even called it pop back in the 70's when I was a kid - mostly just "a coke". More rarely root beer or Sprite would be offerings.
I only heard "soda" or "pop" from my cousins up in Michigan.

If someone says they are bbq'ing I assume they are grilling. If they say they are bbq'ing, then tell me about their rub, brine, wood, cooker or cookers then I know that they are my people!!
Where I live, if someone is having hotdogs, burgers etc. they call it a cook-out. BBQ'ing is rarely used as a term and is referenced to the food, like ribs, chicken, pork butts. My wife is from Michigan and her family and friends say "having a barbecue". It caught me off guard when I first heard it in 2010 but I caught on to the lingo quickly. They also say "pop" in reference to soda. That one caught me off guard too lol.
