Post pictures of food that LOOKS terrible if you don't know, but will blow you away if you're brave enough to try it!

The World Cup biscuits & gravy thread made me think - we oughtta have a thread about this.

    Ideally, post YOUR OWN pictures.

Post something you've made, that someone from another country maybe, another culture, might look at and be absolutely flabbergasted, until you convinced them to try it. Consider biscuits & gravy already covered.

    My first contribution:

    Crawfish Étouffée

What about how this pan of 'soup' you'd think would fit in perfectly at a school cafeteria:

But was really one of the best bowls of smoked, pork chile verde I've ever made or eaten anywhere!

You took something that looked like a cafeteria soup and made it look beautiful. Good job.

I don’t remember what this is. But I remember that it was delicious and I didn’t post the photo because it looked really unappealing.

I’m pretty sure it’s a partially caramelized onion and garlic thing, but I’ll be damned if I know for sure. The photos on either side of it aren’t related.

Dr. Fleming* sir, there is something strange growing on the Petri dish!

        * Dr. Alexander Fleming, discoverer of penicillin. That turned out good.🙂

A lot of things I make fall into the "slop" category. That doesn't stop them from tasting good.

Like my father taught me back in high school. On his days off, leftovers go into a big pan with some eggs. I am 59 and back then there were no options - eat or be hungry. I always ate.

If at first you don't succeed, eat lots of étouffée. 👍(and make a few notes as you go. 🙂)

The Nassau Grits that I posted in SUWYC don't really look too appetizing but they are delicious.

Grits and Biscuits and Gravy are probably the two southern foods that nearly everyone would enjoy if they just overlooked the way that they look.

For me, Japanese curries, moles, etc. always take the 'tastes better than it looks' awards. This particular Japanese curry from a restaurant nearby (image taken from Google) is really stunning, though definitely no looker. If I might say, it actually looks even worse in person 😅
