Spin-It: All of My Ingredient Swaps, Now Searchable

You might know, I dig this woman’s approach to food and cooking. She has this thing when she gives a recipe, about how you can sub in a different ingredient if you don’t have something and can’t get it, or don’t feel like putting on your outdoors clothes to go get it. She calls it “spin it”. Like, if the recipe calls for sriracha, but you don’t have it; enter it into Spin It, and you get:

This doesn’t mean that you’ll get the same thing; in fact, that’s the point! She writes,
“Just Because it Will Work, Doesn’t Mean it’s the Same
“Sriracha is a Spin It for gochujang.
“Are these spicy condiments from two different cuisines? Yes. Does sriracha lack the fermented flavors and sweetness of gochujang? Also yes. Are they equivalent? Hell no. Will sriracha work in the marinade for Monday’s famous Gochujang Broiled Salmon Bowl? Unequivocally: yes.
“I could go on. And I will: Garam masala is not the same as chili powder, and both of them are different from berbere. Again: singular cuisines, unique flavor profiles. But garam masala will behave the same as another spice mix, which means you can start cooking now. Will it taste different than the original? Totally.”
And this is how it should be. You have a basic idea of what you want to eat, you have a bunch of ingredients in the fridge and pantry. You think, “chicken piccata?” But you don’t have capers:

Well I don’t know about pickles, but I can work with green olives! It won’t be piccata, but maybe mushrooms, onions, and sun dried tomatoes, or roasted red peppers, and I have something new and tasty!
