What is your BBQ journey?

    My journey didn't start here but it definitely flourished and greatly expanded here.

    I don't really have a niche, when things get same-y I look for inspiration here in the pit via SUWYC or random flip through a cook book or even sometimes I just pick a continent and find something I haven't tried before. Long term goal to further eliminate getting into a rutt is to fully have 1 of each type of fuel and style cooker on the back deck.

    Of course, there are some staples on my cookers. Pork butts and ribs, maybe a chuck or tritip, beef or venison jerky, and in the cooler months I crank out a lot of cheese.

      When we first got married 46 years ago, I had a small hibachi smothered that thing with lighter fluid and sat on ground and cooked hamburgers and hot dogs. I dont even want to guess how many cookers I have used since that time. I often say that I taught myself how to cook and my wife taught me how to prepare food. There was a time when our kitchen was a train wreck, now it’s not that way. Teaching myself meant my time here in The Pit so I really cannot say I am self taught. This place has been amazing and has helped me to learn so much.

      I have settled down on brands now for sure. I am a Grilla fan boy and really dont see that changing. I have a silverbac, primate and a Kong. Even though I love the charcoal, the convenience of the pellet cooker is my go to for sure. When we cook we do it together here so I dont really have time to tend a fire and help prepare the rest of the meal. Do I have a niche? Nope, I really love to cook any type of food and am not afraid to eat or try to cook anything. I will say that if there was one cooker that I would not want to do without it is by far the flat top. Cook on it everyday. It has all indeed been a journey but Amazing Ribs has been a huge part.
