    Tortilla, meat, cheese, veggies

    Tortilla, meat, cheese, veggies
I tried googling how many different dishes are made from these 4 ingredients,
but the answer came back unlimited.
So, what is your favorite dish to make using these ingredients?

What in the world is happening here? This is a BBQ website for goodness sake. Have aliens landed and taken control of the BBQ masses? We’re talking about things like beans and pasta in chili and what do we call tortillas, meat, cheese, veggies. GET AHOLD OF YOURSELVES PEOPLE. It’s Christmas and we should be sharing our best BBQing moments with family & friends. I love all y’all, but I’m worried about all y’all’s state of mind.

Christmas and tacos. There is the tie-in we needed for the above rant. (Photographer: "I will put a star anise pod there just to fill in that spot.)
          Those look really good.

Twenty-four. The number of possible permutations of four items is twenty-four. (4 factorial)

But each item has so many permutations and combinations. Heck, the meats alone. Beef, chicken, pork, fish, goat, donkey, iguana, eel, reindeer, etc…, etc …, etc … 😉

Okay, Donw sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole. Also I just happen to have access to academic databases. And I am bored out of my mind.

Worldwide, here is roughly the breakdown of species consumed for food:
        • Meats (beef, pork, poultry, wild game, waterfowl, rodents (eww)): ~150 (surprisingly small)
        • Reptiles & Amphibians (snake, frogs, etc): ~20
        • Fish and other water things (people-edible swimming things + crab, lobster, mollusks, etc): ~2,000 (Lot of fish in this world!)
For vegetables we are about 100 species (I thought this would be much larger).

There are about 1,500 distinct varieties of cheese consumed in the world. (That's a lot!)

The number of distinct types of tortillas is about ten. (Only so much you can do with water and masa/flour.)

        So to a first approximation we have 2000 x 100 x 1500 x 10 = 3 x 10^9 or three billion combinations.

In the end, every culture has its variation of a sandwich. A flour or cornmeal shell, meat, cheese, and veggies. Heck, if you are open minded enough, pizza just might be an open faced sandwich. Those Italians that balk at open faced sammies just fold it over and make a calzone
