So in 2023 Troutman shared and asked the rest of us to share our yearly highlights. Using his words a bit here, it was not maybe a really great looking photo, although it could be, but more what cooks did you and your family do this year that made you go wow, got to do this again?
It was a fun post of looking back over the year, would love to see others share theirs from this year.
This year I continued to host “Meatfest” for me and a couple of friends. Same guys each time. I do it when the wifey is out of town so we can act like idiots. 🤣🙄 We had #3 and #4.
I always have four meats. Two “main” items and two “sides”. One of the mains is always a rack of beef plate ribs. That’s a lock. Main meat #2 and the two sides varies. Attached are some pucs from #’s 1-4.
It’s always a blast. Meatfest #5 will be in the spring. Can’t wait.
Wow, I gotta remember what I cooked this past year. My recent Porchetta was pretty good. The steakhouse style rye sourdough bread was a favorite of mine. Various stir fries, steaks, copycat La Cocina breakfast tacos etc. Here are some:
Porchetta
Steakhouse sourdough rye
La Cocina copycat green chile egg breakfast tacos
Big Ol' Steak
Outside Skirt Fajitas Verdes, an ArnieTex recipe. This is one of my favorite things that I grilled this year.
Crawfish Etouffee
Mongolian Beef
Hatch Cheddar Sausage

Pit Barrel Cooker
Weber Master-Touch
Blackstone Omnivore 4 Burner Griddle
Thermoworks: Signals, Billows, Thermopens, Thermopops, Nodes, bunch of silicone stuff, and more!
OnlyFire Rotisserie w/ Basket attachment for the Weber
Vortex for the Weber
Both of Meathead's books!
Way too many BBQ related accessories, tools, and doo-dads!
I forgot I had so many pictures of yard bird from this year. Prices were pretty good, so I guess we ate a lot of it! I didn't include all of them, since they were about the same cuts every other time.
So I feel like I did not have a big or good year of cooking, This year just went by so fast and I did not accomplish 1/2 of what I would have hoped for.
With that being said, I did have some good cooks this year.
I advanced my knowledge on a thin crust pizza, which then advances me in developing a good frozen pizza, and I was hired to throw a pizza party.
my wife is completely addicted to smoked pork belly ramen.
we also enjoyed beef cheek and tongue, including Tacos Lengua
‘Edit: Adding hosting Thanksgiving and getting to share some of my cooking that they had never had, was pretty amazing in my yearly cooks.

I think I finally got ribs figured out, so I'll be continuing to cook ribs because that is why I got the darned cooker. 🙂
Then, this last dish I posted on SUWYC, which was surprisingly awesome, the lasagna with béchamel/besciamella. I will certainly be making that again, and because it is so calorific, I'll probably make the bolognese and use it for something other than lasagna as well.
Although there were a lot of cooks that we enjoyed, there were three new recipes that I've learned since I joined the site in July. They are now and forever in our rotation list...
Brat Tub Smoked Chicken White Bean Chili Hoppin' John Beans and Rice
