New PBS series “The State of BBQ - A Texas Monthly Special”
Last night many PBS stations across the country introduced a new series about BBQ entitled “The State of BBQ - A Texas Monthly Special.” Check out your local listings for times and dates. If you are a public television contributor and have access to PBS “Passport” you can watch it streaming from your local station or via the Passport app.
For more than 50 years, the award-winning magazine Texas Monthly has been chronicling the state and nobody knows Texas — its characters and complexities — better than the magazine’s writers and editors. On October 24 and 31, PBS presents two new documentary specials derived from Texas Monthly’s Lone Star Emmy-award nominated Texas PBS series, which bring the magazine’s acclaimed journalism from the page to the screen, told through the perspectives of some of the state’s finest storytellers.
Thanks for that Donw ! After a little searching I found The State of BBQ is going to air next, at 2 am this Tuesday Nov. 4. Already set my DVR. I’m not sure if it shows nationwide or not, but in Houston and on Dish Network it will.
Watching it as I type this...it is a really great show.
Plus, Daniel Vaughn is one my BBQ heroes...what could be a better job than getting to travel around eating amazing BBQ (and probably some not amazing bbq) on an expense account...
One of the highlights in my BBQ journey was sitting at the bar in Sam Jones BBQ in NC at the launch party of the book Sam and Daniel wrote together having a beer and talking bbq with Daniel...

I really enjoyed this. Seeing the segment on Kareem at KG really was a highlight as I have fond memories of him just from reading Troutman ‘s article of he, 58limited , and TripleB ’s visit to his food truck. As I said back then how can you not love someone with that smile. Being able to actually hear him and learn his story was icing on the cake.
Even though I enjoyed the visit to the caves, I wished I had gone to Austin with the other 3 for BBQ during that Meat Up. I still need to enjoy Leroy & Lewis and KG. Interstellar BBQ was great.
KG was great when we visited his truck. Troutman put on the "we're from amazingribs.com" and KG loaded up our tray with extra food. He was very, very nice. His BBQ was also very good, especially the lamb and lamb shawarma.
