One of the best things I ever ate…

Is this glorious sandwich. This is the sandwich cut in half mind you.

It is so good, I have no desire to even attempt to make it myself. The bread is homemade, the spices are perfect, the sandwich integrity holds together perfectly despite the huge amount of meat, and the meat is sublime. The description on the menu of Philly Steak Cheese sandwich does not do it justice. I had it for breakfast Tom Mosca so maybe you want to take this one one. 🤣

I love that you got your pics on his wall!

So that’s the Philly Cheesesteak? Is it made with Mediterranean/Greek spices and seasonings? Beef, or lamb? Homemade bread; it looks like a large round roll, cut in the middle of the top and stuffed, is that right?

I would definitely go for this.

Cool. When I try this, I’ll start with Zataar spice and that touch of cinnamon. I don’t do breads and baking, but I could probably get something at the bakery that would work. That looks like a chewy bread.

See my comment below on the bread. It is more chewy than most breads as it tears more. He also clearly removes most of the meat juices before placing it in the bread. This is probably due to the vertical rotisserie where he slices the meat off but then I’d guess he would be griddling it to mix in the cheese and peppers. I have not actually seen his kitchen so my educated guess.

Zataar spice plus cinnamon sounds like a very good start.

Does the bread have a different taste to it? It might be a take on an oversized samoon loaf, usually made with yoghurt or buttermilk.

No, it tastes normal. It tears so there is little tug instead of biting clean through if that helps. The genius of the bread is that it holds all of the meat (see the super thin layer of the bottom bread layer) without breaking so they are adding something or cooking it in some way to make it stronger. There is no crispy to the bread as it is soft.

STEbbq Sounds a lot like Po-Boy bread.

Carolyn yeah, the tear nature is definitely more Po-Boy bread. The shape is round though not thin and bun-like in shape.

Everything on the menu is great. If you get the sandwich, I’d really recommend the special coffee they serve with cardamom. The falafels are also the best I have had….oh and the baklava.

Yeah, I know. But that is why my pic is on the wall. 🤣

Looks great Stephen! I’m actually having lunch right now at a Mediterranean place called The House of Shawarma.

Place for the next Chicago Mini-Meatup? I was just thinking yesterday that we should try to set something up!

Not a bad idea. But it is super small. The place can hold maybe 10-15 people.

Philly cheesesteak sandwiches were never something that sounded appetizing to me, but that sandwich looks really good. I need to look up some recipes.
