I do _absolutely everything_ in a cast iron tagine. I stole a small grille from an instant pot and I simply stick it in the tagine. I can lift the food about a centimeter or about 1.5in from the bottom with the grille. My next goal is pizza or maybe cheesecake, but I haven't tried any baking yet.
Link to the one I bought in my SUWYC post.

No disrespect intended or implied to virgosystems, but I don't see this as a unique BBQ tool. Before you posted, I had never heard of it. Interesting vessel, for sure, and there appears to be some benefit in the moisture retention area. But I don't really see a BBQ connection.
I wasn't clear we were laser focused on bbq. I thought the topic was cooking in general. Having said that, as I mentioned you can use a small round grill in it. I took mine from an instant pot, or you could probably even cut one out of mesh. I don't see any problem tossing some wood pellets in there either.
virgosystems - sorry, didn't mean to dis you or your post. I've just always thought this forum is about all things BBQ. Upon further research into the forum, I see where this might not be the case. Apologies! I still don't see a connection of a tagine to what we call BBQ in the USA, but other members might like to investigate the possibilities of cooking gear that they also had never known about before - like me. Peace and good will to you with your tagine. 😊

virgosystems, search for tagine. There is a thread here re beans, claypot cooking, and tagines. I recently picked one up, like yours, at an estate sale. Have not used it. I believe that most tagines do not have a vent. Frankly, seems to me that they are very similar to dutch ovens, except that the sloped lid may lead condensation to the outer edge.
virgosystems , not to worry. There is plenty of no grillin cookin goin on here. We are messin with all sorts of dishes, methods, and mochinery. There has been a ton of Asian cookin, woks and all! Shoot, there has even been mentioned on this sacred site, Peanut Butter & Jelly! Tangine on!!!
