Bad Day Today (Freezer Outage)

Replace it with a "garage ready" freezer. YES. There is a difference. Garage rated refrigerators and freezers have larger condensers, and can operate at higher ambient temperatures. Unless your garage is air conditioned. Also I would really like to air condition my garage, not so much for temperature but to keep the humidity below 80% all summer.

I know this isn't your concern down in Miami, but around here you need garage ready refrigerators so that everything in your refrigerator doesn't freeze in the winter.

Its been so long since I bought the freezer but I think I was specifically looking for one that could go into the garage. The only issues I've had in the past was the fan blade had to be replaced (design error - it walked down the shaft until it bound up on the motor mounting bracket, replacement corrected the flaw) and the motor went out once but those were easy fixes.

I haven't done much with troubleshooting the freezer other than to make sure there is power to it - there is. When plugged in though the compressor does not come on, there is no sound at all. I'm going to bypass the defroster to see if that is the problem otherwise the compressor is probably bad.

They don't make stuff like they used to: My 1948 Firestone upright freezer is working fine and I have a mid-50s chest freezer currently at a friend's place that is also working fine. I left it there a few years back because I didn't have room here - their modern freezer went out and they have been using it since I left it there (At this point I'm pretty much considering it theirs).

My Acu-Rite is still performing fine, but I really think I will switch over to the Nodes soon. My wife and I are nearly always at home, but we can't hear the alarm upstairs, and I always have my phone on me.

My replacement freezer: 1956 Philco. It works but there seems to be a problem. I always thought a deep freeze was supposed to stay at -10^o F but this one goes to -30^oF and the compressor isn't cycling off. Probably a simple fix but I need to consult with an appliance repairman.

I got the thermostat replaced and the freezer is working fine and is now stocked with stuff saved from the old one plus I did a little reorganization of the other freezers. How many here have a steak dispenser in their freezer ?

(And I totally freaked when I saw this thread pop up again....thought the outage happened today and I was like, no...not on XMas eve!)
