10 million pounds of beef and chicken recalled

Yes, you read that right. Almost 10 million pounds. Prepackaged stuff at several popular stores

Thanks for the heads up. Fortunately none of those products is anything we'd ever buy.

My daughter is the only person in the family who shops at Trader Joe's, so I forwarded the article to her. I think she mostly gets frozen stuff though, and not sure that is what was on this recall.

Ditto, we almost never buy those premade things. Good to know, though. Listeria ain't nuthin' to mess around with.

We shop every week at TJ’s, but never purchase the premade meals or salads with meat. Thanks for posting.

I wonder if recalls like this trickle down to other meat and chicken products. Honestly the way food is mass produced opens so many opportunities for issues like this. I just do not see how they can police these issues.

Great. Hurricane blows away the chickens and someone doesn't wash their hands. BANG! No meat for you!

Wow, had me on high alert for a sec. My eldest son's grad party is tomorrow and I have 30 lbs raw chicken in the fridge to smoke for pulled chicken (did ~45 lbs pork today) and I was hoping it wasn't Walmart raw chicken on that list.

Good grief when will we ever learn to irradiate our food supply? I’ll shut up now I’ve been on this soap box before.

I don't think enough of the "right" people have invested in it. I've even wondered about High Pressure Pasteurization.

Another thing, Listeria is mainly a post-lethality contact Microbe. You can pasteurize, sterilize, irradiate, doesn't matter. If it contacts a surface after any of that with Listeria you got sick people.

Jerod Broussard That’s the beauty of irradiation. You can process the food, package it, freeze it and load it on a truck before you irradiate it. Just pull the truck in your shielded bay and hit it with gamma rays from Cobalt 60. When the time is up there will be no living organisms in the food or the truck. Put the driver back in the truck and send it out to the stores still frozen but pathogen free.

It's hard to believe how careless these processors are knowing so well the dangers of what you are producing. I heard an interview with a former Boars Head employee, unbelievable the lack of control and concern.

I will never buy another Boars Head product. I hope the other manufacturers something learn from that.

But, but, but... their profits were good so the shareholders were happy and that's all that matters.

And yet another reason to avoid pre-made meals and the like. I’m definitely a perimeter shopper. There are some aisles in the grocery store that I’m certain that I’ve never been down.
