Unfortunately, after my sinus surgery, I have lost most of my sense of smell and taste.

How long ago was your surgery? I lost mine after my sinus surgery for a month or so as I recall. When it came back it was quick and far better than ever. I remember walking into the grocery store and I could immediately smell the produce from the front door. It was an amazing experience.
I hope your surgery was recently, and you have a similar recovery.

Smoke em if you got em It was over a year and a half ago. I can not smell smoke, I can taste that it is salty, is sweet, and feel it has heat. No savory at all. Can tell that it is citrusy but not which one. I can smell that is is pungent.

Home-made bread baking. Chocolate chippers in the oven (I’m a sucker for that old realtor trick). Onions cooking: with garlic; with pepppers; alone; with just about anything except liver. Some well smoked meat. Chili. Potatoes frying.

On the flip side, there’s the aforementioned liver. Anything to do with bananas. Gefilte fish boiling, it’s amazing that anything that tastes so good smells so bad while cooking.

Donw reminded me of somethin'. I always thought turnip greens smelled wonderful while cooking, but I never liked the taste. Then I felt I could learn to like 'em, so any time my mom or one of my aunts cooked them, I'd take a taste. It took a while, but now I love them.

making Gumbo, soups, pot roast, frying bacon.

I don’t bake, but the smell of freshly baked bread and apple pie takes me back to my childhood and my mom’s bakery goods.

Going to a BBQ competition and smelling the smoke and smoked meats. I like to stand at the entrance for a few minutes and just take it in. I like the smell of this when I smoke meat as well, but when you do the smoking your olfactory senses get blown out real fast.

Gliding down a ski run on a nice spring day, smelling the burgers being grilled on the porch of one of the slope restaurants.

Maybe the ambience had something to do with it.
