Note taking in the kitchen, need help.

Hi my name is Richard, and I hate writing, and I hate typing, using my hands for anything other than cooking. However I love to experiment constantly which unfortunately leaves me never remembering things, unless I do them obsessively over and over…. You’ve all seen it, and will continue to, 😂

So I’m not going to change and suddenly start doing that, but I am looking for input on systems, apps, etc that you use to dictate while you are doing it, and having it keep your notes. And also be able to come back maybe and add taste notes. But all verbal start stop, etc, no hands.

    Thank you in advance!

On a PC there is an app called Dragon, I believe they have a phone app also (Dragon Go), not cheap but maybe worth looking into.

I’m familiar with it, it is a complex and really cool. I have to figure out if I can learn all the prompts. But very cool. I need to re consider this.

How about using Notes and Dictation already built into your iPad? Look to see if your iPad keyboard has the little microphone symbol to the left of the spacebar. Just give it a try and see if it would meet your needs before moving on to other apps. Just my 2¢

+1 on Notes and the built-in dictation for that.

Watching this spot, since I print out the recipe via Paprika, make notes of the changes I make as I cook it, then type in the revisions on Paprika the next day and save it. Pretty labor intensive. Plus I add ingredients to my grocery list if I use them up in the cooking process. I need an assistant like Ina Garten has.

Nice. Hope it wouldn't pick up the words I say as I accidentally burn myself or drop something on the floor.

Unfortunately it knows all the English cuss words.🙄

I've used the Notes app a lot on my iPhone, but never checked to see if it would stay "live" during a 4 hour dinner prep.

I've also done brief notes using the microphone for input directly into Paprika. Not sure how long that would stay "live" either, but it would be fun to try it out.

I think the voice dictation will turn off after a bit. There is also a limit of about 30 seconds of continuous speech on each conversion. My understanding is that the computer (Mac) or iPad buffer the speech, send it to Apple's servers and pull the text back down. So as long as you don't speak non stop, it should work.

I just played with it, and it will do things like insert a period when I say "period". But it won't undo or backspace - instead it just types out those words, haha. I quickly ended up with a document full of stuff I had to manually delete...

Avid user of Evernote here. A little pricey but very robust and a mature software.

If I lived near you, I would take notes all day!!!

I don’t have much to add to your query, though. I am a handwriting note taker.
