I am hosting a grill party in a couple of weeks, and a few of my guests are vegetarian. Could anyone suggest a tasty vegetarian recipe for the grill or smoker that goes beyond just grilled vegetables?
I am planning to make smoked jalapeño poppers as appetizers, but I'd like to have a nice main dish for my vegetarian guests as well.
There are some great marinated and grilled portobello mushroom recipes out there. I’ve had them at restaurants before. A bit of searching should get you on your way to a good fake steak.

Cauliflower is very versatile. There was a thread back in may, I forgot who was cooking for students (I think mrteddyprincess did the cook???), but they did cauliflower hot wings. You could also do cauliflower steaks, slicing steaks out of a head of cauliflower. A little olive oil and some seasoning and grill those up.
I do like the big portobellos as well that Lynn mentions above. Take that like steaks, or even sandwiches.
Okay, I have three classes of high school chemistry students, and I'm planning to cook chicken thighs and homemade biscuits for them. I had them fill out a survey.
So far, I have three students who are vegetarians, and they checked the option to talk to me about vegan alternatives. My go-to would be using cauliflower to make

My wife calls me "Teddy" and I call her "Princess" and that's where "mrteddyprincess" comes from.
Sear portobello caps like you would steak. Jack fruit can be smoked and turned into a pulled pork like substance. There are some pretty good veggie brats and burgers out there. And sometimes vegetarians are okay eating fish. I would have direct conversation with your future guests and find out their preferences.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

Baked potato salad or fried potato salad is really good side whcih can also be a meal. My wife makes ours with bacon pieces, but of course skipping that would be in order. You could try slicing in half and smoke-grilling your potatoes for a portion of the time, or add a touch of liquid smoke to the mayo, or place the completed salad in a couple shallow pie pans and smoke it for 30 min stirring occasionally, or used smoked cheese...all to give it that smokey hint w/o using bacon. Grilled pineapple rings with brown sugar are also a big hit with most folks unless they detest pineapple.
Huskee comment made me think more about potatoes. We regularly buy the smaller red potatoes, smaller than a tennis ball but larger than an egg, to grill. I have a Corning ware bowl with a lid that I’ll put 10 or 12 of them in with 1/4 inch water and Microwave for 10 minutes on high. They should be soft but not mushy. Slice them in half and baste them in a high smoke point oil, I use avocado oil. They need some seasoning applied, I like just plain Lawry’s seasoned salt. Take them to the grill and brown them on all sides. They are delicious. I think I could make a meal on them, maybe they can too.
I had completely forgotten about Bobby Flay. I have cooked a few of his recipes in the past and eventually adapted them to my tastes, but I don't often think of him first. Thank you for reminding me!
