          Texas Hot Dog

          Save Recipe
          Print
          Makes 8
          Ingredients
          ½ cup mayonnaise
          2 tablespoons white vinegar
          ½ teaspoon celery seed
4 cups thinly sliced green cabbage
½ cup thinly sliced red bell pepper
          8 all-beef hot dog franks
Hot dog buns, Texas-style barbecue sauce, and sweet pickle relish, to serve
          Instructions
In a large bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, vinegar, and celery seed until smooth. Add cabbage and bell pepper; toss cabbage mixture with dressing until well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
In a grill pan or skillet, cook franks over medium-high heat, working in batches, until browned and heated through, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Serve on buns with barbecue sauce, slaw, and sweet pickle relish.

The Dinglewood Scrambled Dog reigns supreme. I had one Friday afternoon when I visited my mother in Columbus, GA. Onions, cheese, pickles, oyster crackers, Tabasco, mustard, and just ever so little ketchup. You eat it with a spoon.

holehogg the Dinglewood Pharmacy is full 6 days a week from the time they open. It's one of those magical phenomena that is hard to explain.

One the one hand, hot dogs are so déclassé that overworking them seems to be putting lipstick on a pig.

On the other hand, I’ll eat just about any damn hot dog you put in front of me, and probably ask for another.

Except for my biannual Scrambled Dog, my go-to is in a plain bun with mustard. Never fails to hit the spot.

I do like that omelet dog in the link, though. I’ll probably do that at least once.

I prefer any Hot Dog made by one of our local Meat Lockers and luckily we have a few of them within a 50 mile radius. That's why I keep a cooler in both of our vehicles. Just in case I'm driving by one of the Meat Lockers and a need arises!

                # 1 Hebrew National all beef dog on the roller. Raw onion, ketchup. All on a cheap and thin white bread bun.

#2 Ambassador Scandinavian Wieners. Hormel chili(no beans!) Sharp cheddar, raw onion. Thin, white bread bun.

The parts store in Perryton, TX had what they called weenie day once a year. Big sales and free hotdogs. I learned to build a hotdog there. Any decent bun, mustard, Ballpark hotdog well grilled, Wolf brand chili, and sauerkraut. I could eat 3 of them when I was in my prime.

                      Out of the package.
                      Why?
The plastic packaging gets between my teeth.
