Breakfast Cooks Ain’t Gettin’ No Love, Let’s Change That!

I THINK WE SHOULD ELIMINATE THE BREAKFAST IDEA FROM THE LABOR DAY COOKOFF….Hear me out please!

After seeing all the enthusiasm for breakfast cooks as a suggestion for the next cook off, I thought maybe we can do something better for this particular meal! Richard Chrz gave me the inspiration for this, with his occasional posts asking “What’s Up This Weekend?” Every few weeks or so, Richard posts something like this, asking what our plans for the weekend are. It always generates a lot of interest and discussion among ourselves and goes on all weekend.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I rarely eat breakfast so I have no dog in this fight…..

Because of this, I was actually surprised at all the people eager to show off their breakfast cooks, and let’s face it, this opens the door for a ton of possibilities! SUWYC is fine and all, but 99% of the cooks shown are dinner pics, with a smattering of lunch pics. We don’t really have anything special to show off just breakfast cooks, swap ideas and recipes etc. Mosca posts breakfast cooks he’s done pretty frequently and they’re usually awesome looking and creative. Hell, even that grouchy old bastard CaptainMike just posted that he can cook better breakfasts than any of us! Y’all gonna let some guy from California get away with that? Because of all the enthusiasm for breakfast shown in just a few hours of the Cookoff post yesterday, why limit a Breakfast cook to be showcased in an annual event? And to be honest, Labor Day doesn’t exactly scream…breakfast cooks! Here’s my initial thoughts and we can take it from here….

Why not do a monthly post just for breakfast cooks. We could call it…What’s For Breakfast?…..or whatever. I think it would work better than an ongoing post. This would give us all something to look forward to, rather than a permanent post where people can just post any ol’ time….it would be more of AN EVENT!

If we do this, I was thinking it could be started on a Friday morning and run all weekend. Too many people work during the week and wouldn’t really be able to participate, except on the weekends. Plus, if we know when it will be posted, this would give everyone time to gather ingredients and ideas. Hell, this would even motivate me to try making shrimp and grits! This is something we could start this Friday, or whenever. If you guys and gals like this idea, I’m going to blindside Mosca and nominate him to kick it off!…. [providing y’all like this idea]

These are just my initial thoughts and are subject to changes if wanted.

Oak Smoke he was a childhood hero of mine. One real life badass hombre'. I'm guessing yours is of an old Texas Ranger, but I can't put my finger on who it is. It was the inspiration for using Bass as my avatar.

And you've inspired me to change my avatar to Randy Bass for a little while.😀

Well, since my breakfast everyday is 1 hard boiled egg so that I can take my morning meds with food, I'm with you on the "no dog in this hunt" crowd. But I do enjoy seeing the wonderful cooks for breakfast posted here - vicariously that is!

Metamucil powder (orange flavored) and vodka. A new weekend tonic. I even named it the "Tom Colon".

I’m not very inspirational about breakfast cooks. I alternate btwn cheerios w/almond milk +blueberries and a cheese omelette w/sausage. That’s my morning routine - alternating btwn two simple meals. BTW today is a cheerios day…..

We usually eat “breakfast” at closer to lunch time around 11am-noon, which are decidedly non breakfast foods. We do routinely make breakfast foods for dinner such as scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns.

At least a couple days a week I make non-breakfast food, usually a cheeseburger or hot dog or some other sandwich. What I don’t eat hardly ever is lunch; if breakfast is too big, I eat half of it early, and then the other half after noon.

What! No one eats Black Bean Tofu with Avocado for breakfast!

Sometimes avocados on toast with tomatoes and melted cheese, does that count?

I think it will be fun. Always do flat top breakfasts on weekends and I have gotten into a bit of a rut, so this may help! BTW, I am sure everyone puts beans in their scrambled eggs......

If we only do it once a month, I think it’ll give even the cereal or bagel crowd something else to look forward to trying, without breaking up their normal breakfast routine. As I mentioned, I rarely eat breakfast, but I’d bust out my griddle for the occasion. Plus, after having experienced shrimp and grits for the 1st time in Lafayette last month, I would really like to try it at home.

I already posted Boild Bacon, so top that my friends.
I will need to take a pic of my Cream of Chip Beef on toast, aka SOS.

Breakfast is too early for beer, so I will have to pair it with Coffee Black and Hot.

"Breakfast Cooks Ain’t Gettin’ No Love" I feel their pain.

Do what I do and sleep until mid-afternoon, then it's not too early for beer when you wake up. Modern problems require modern solutions.

Never though of SOS for breakfast. I’ll make it for a Saturday lunch from time to time. If I’m having meat in a gravy for breakfast it is sausage gravy and biscuits.
