    3-D Printed Meat is here

Why yes, we purposefully posted this in the "non-food" channel. If it needs to be moved somewhere else for consistency/correctness - so be it.

    =-=-

An Israeli startup has done a 3D-printed cut of grouper, in the spirit of the "on-demand food creation" thing seen on sci-fi shows like the Jetsons or Star Trek.

These are real proteins that are grown in a lab rather than taken from raised livestock

“Our secret sauce is in our printing capabilities,” Kaufman tells CNN, and while he adds that the steaks printed now don’t have the exact same taste and texture as the real thing, he’s confident they’ll get there in the next decade.

Remember --- if it wasn't for NASA scientists, we wouldn't have Tang or freeze-dried ice cream.

No thanks. I prefer my meat to come from a real animal.

"Launch your day with the goodness of Tang." Ha. That stuff was not good. I think we bought one jar of it, didn't use it all and never bought it again. They lucked out with NASA for advertising.

Instead of 'tea parties,' did kids have 'Tang parties' with their Major Matt Mason dolls?

Slightly off topic here- but I'm curious if anyone knows how Tang compares to Sunny D? My mom bought Sunny D a few times when I was a young kid and I remember hating it. It seemed harsh, like a combo of sour & bitter, worse than bad OJ, from the best that I can recall at the time. My mom still laughs when I bring it up and she admits she didn't like it either.

Never had tang but Sunny D struck me as sweeter and nastier than just regular OJ. I just stick with my pulp free OJ. Thank you.

Tang isn't terrible, but it ain't great neither. Sunny D is terrible. Neither are orange juice. I have packed Tang for backpacking and had it in my wildland firefighting pack for a morning carb hit and it worked well for that, but I wouldn't pick it over OJ at home.

Technology will eventually replace YOUR job. Even if you are a farmer. This is why so many people are freaking out over AI. It will not be much longer before I can get an app on my phone that is better than the BEST human lawyer at getting the jury to find me not guilty. A few years ago it was "HAAHHAHAHAHAHA you want a higher minimum wage? Well look at this self checkout machine! You are replaced".

But now it is "wait a minute, my $500/hour legal services might be replaced with a website in the next few years?? THIS HAS GONE TOO FAR!!!"

But yea. What are we going to do? I really do not know.

Huskee are you sure? Post WWII when IBM went back to making business machines instead of M1 Carbine rifles (by the way, my birthday is in January and I do not have one, so......yea) nobody thought AI software would be able to write academic research quality papers in seconds. Complete with references and works cited. But here we are. There are alarm bells going off as to where this is all going.

SmokeyGator well I can't see the future, but I'm 100% confident that it still takes humans to do certain things.

Huskee I used to think that, but then I realized there are A LOT of really dumb people out there. And the few smart people will only use new technology to invent newer and better technology. AI will help them make AI better. It is entirely possible that AI will get to the point where it just makes itself better. At that point we will have to invent a new system to live under. Will it be more like Terminator or Star Trek? HOPEFULLY Star Trek
