    Freezer defrost/inventory: shoulda bought a 9 footer….

    Who am I kidding. If I’d gotten a 9 footer, then now I’d need a 12 footer.

    This is what came out:

And I tried to make it nice and neat going back in:

Then I got to the end and said, “Aaaaah, f… screw it.” None of this stuff fit, some of it I have no idea what it is, what the hell. I just dumped it all in and made sure the door shut.

I did find a couple things I didn’t know I had. Two of these I’d forgotten about:

Those didn’t fit back in, so I’m going to make pastrami with them on Sunday.

I found this, that I didn’t know I had! This is a pleasant surprise:

And I found room for a couple tri-tips inside. But the indoor freezer is NO HELP.

Good lord. Everyone talks about MCS. But I got MMS.

My freezers abhor a vacuum (actually, my whole house does, and apparently the garage too).

Some nice finds. I wish my freezer had surprises like that wagyu.

Well Mosca you should have had a freezer sale and just started over.

I literally could have made this exact same post with nearly the exact same pictures! (Especially as I have those blue recycle-bin containers as well.) My chest freezer is full and I've only had it since July!

I need to make a conscious effort to "eat down" some of that stuff so I can fit the brisket that is in my fridge in there!

Yep. I pulled the two corned beefs and I’m going to do them this weekend, or maybe Monday. Then I’ll hit a rack of ribs, they take up a lot of space. That should help.

What happens is, I never plan meals. I go grocery shopping, and if I see something that might be good for dinner, I buy it. And I also buy anything that is on sale. So the freezer is always collecting against lean times. But I never thaw anything because that takes advance planning.

See, now this is why I don’t by a extra freezer. Wifey keeps telling me I should get one but I know I would just fill it up. I just use the one on the fridge, keep a detailed inventory in a notebook, and try to plan ahead. As the stock is worked down, I keep a “to buy” list in the notebook and place an order with Wild Fork when it makes sense to bring the inventory back up again. Works for me. 🤷‍♂️

You only have one freezer? The one that is with the fridge in your kitchen? 😳 How do y’all do it? I don’t see how anyone can live with only one refrigerator and not have one in the garage. I’m single and HAVE to have my garage fridge/freezer, couldn’t do without it.

Panhead John Yup. Just the one unit. The key is the notebook and keeping it current. And eating what I have in stock too I guess. There are times when my freezer is nearly empty except for frozen veggies and my wife’s ice cream. Wild Fork delivers overnight to me so when low, BOOM, a quick order via their app and I’m back in business.

Freezer is more efficient full. That’s what I tell myself.
