SWMBO read a news article to me, Podnah's Pit BBQ as central Texas BBQ was named #1 in Oregon.
So, I wondered, how many styles of Texas BBQ are there? For a long time thought Texas BBQ was beef over coals as depicted in the old TV show Dallas.
Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
Thank God for America. Seriously. Where else can you live in such disparate places as Florida, Minnesota, California, Pennsylvania, Ohio, etc.; yet still have full and complete access to the food traditions of Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Kansas City, Alabama, etc.? Sure, anyone anywhere in the world has access to everything and anything now. But HERE is where you can get in a car and drive there. Or, they can pack up their stuff and move to Wisconsin and open up a restaurant. Nobody needs a passport, nobody needs a visa, nobody needs to exchange money. You can just do it.
Texas BBQ. Here. Right now. All you need to do is, do it.
Over the course of my career, I worked with many Europeans. They always marveled at just the exact things you say. Also buying or building a house. Couldn’t believe how easy it is here.

Not sure about this. They missed the very important contributions of African slaves and later African Americans to east and southeast Texas bbq—hot links for example, in addition to bringing other southern bbq influences. Black bbq in east and southeast Texas is outstanding, and it’s own thing worthy of a separate inclusion.

I read a biography of Satchel Paige recently, and it said that in Kansas City in the early 40s the BBQ cooks were black. I don't know if that means they were part of an independent black BBQ tradition, or if they were hired by white owners. The featured meats were possum, racoon, and pork.
Like Mosca says get in your car and come on down. Texas is a very BIG place with lots of food and fun every where you go. I love central Texas BBQ, but will eat any of the other when I get a chance.
Barbecue is a state of mind…
Seems today, bbq can be putting sauce on a hot dog…
That’s a long way from the process of feeding a lot of people and had to be done every day every day…
This created the history of cooking large animals outside, which took a long time and a lot of coals…
Here’s to all the pitmasters that put their hearts and souls into it and passed the traditions on to us…
Thankfully many of those ranches keep the spirit of the Chuckwagon alive, when they could afford to helicopter meals to the cowboys…
Wild animal barbecues fit right in where tradition means something…
