When did ribs & pork chop become red meat?

A cardiologist shares 4 worst foods for high cholesterol—and what she eats to keep her ‘heart healthy’
    . Red meat

Yes, that includes burgers, ribs, steak and pork chops. If you don’t want to cut out red meat altogether, focus on small amounts of lean meat. And by small, I mean a portion size of up to three ounces — and eat red meat at most, once a week.

tried to copy link from cnbc… didn’t work 🙄

My cardiologist told me not to worry about anything except simple carbs, stuff like desserts, chips and pretzels, pasta, potatoes, and white bread. I specifically asked him about bacon, and he said that bacon is fine. So I’m going to trust him.

My favorites "chips and pretzels, pasta, potatoes" - add crackers!

I'm pretty sure the USDA considers all meat from mammals to be red meat. That's a little different than the culinary definition.

Pork was always considered "red meat" until the pork industry decided to breed lean pigs and label them "the other white meat".

Willy you beat me to it. Hogs today are far from what they were a century ago. Or 50 years ago. As opposed to the lean pigs that are the basis of the "other white meat" advertising program (which obviously worked). Today a market weight hog is 240-270 lbs. There are always a few 1200-1300 lb boars at the Iowa State Fair today, but this was what the show hogs at county fairs weighed a century ago. They had a layer of fat that was over a foot thick, at a time when lard was a good thing.

Lard is still a good thing..
Better than the stuff they said we should replace it with..
      Margarine 🙄

Finster I'll just stick with what grandma used. Lots and lots of butter.

If there wasn't any "red" in it we wouldn't get a smoke ring.
