Outside it is the mixture of a hardwood or fruitwood & some selection of meat, pork, like Wibs or maybe a butt, slightly over beef, wafting in the air grabbing one’s attention. Inside it’s hands down bread.

The aroma of food when it’s DONE. 😊

There's a reason just about every realtor bakes up a batch of chocolate chip cookies at the strt of an open house. People are saps for that smell. I'm not sure if I prefer it to the smell of apple or cherry wood smoke. I guess I'll go with the inside versus outside distinction.

When we came to look at our current house for a second time, one that was scheduled vs. a drop in, the prior owner had a spread of food ready to go…fresh made cinnamon rolls on the counter, still warm….

Ahaha! We knew we were buying prior to walking in for this second visit, but that just about sealed the deal

I’ll probably hit this thread up a few times, as I think I’ll have a few that come to mind. But one that I truly love is when I make my paella.

the onions sautéing to a golden brown, as others have mentioned, kick it off. Then you add in a tomato purée and that acidic sweetness to the onions just does something. But when you add in the smoked paprika, this trio just fires off an amazing aroma that the entire neighbor gets! And even a bit after, adding in the white wine I use just prior to the stock….it’s a thing of beauty!

Lots of great smells to choose from but garlic in butter tops my list. It edges out bacon frying in a cast iron pan by a nose.

              It’s bacon!

Second place in my opinion is fresh brewed coffee. I can’t stand the taste but I love the smell.

I gotta say, bacon frying is hard to beat. And it’s only 1 single ingredient being made! Almost all the other heavenly smells involve 2 or more ingredients.

From the time I can remember as a child the first smell every morning was coffee in an old percolating pot. Our bedrooms weren’t heated so you hit the ground and headed for the kitchen. I wasn’t allowed to drink it back then, but the smell brings back so many good memories.
