A hobby is turning into more

I have been having so much fun grilling and smoking meat. As many of you know, or may not know, I have also gotten into brewing beer and mead. As part of this, I have been letting friends try my cooking and I have gotten really good responses from them. I did a batch of burnt ends, took them to the local french bakery near my work. I got such a good response from them, they asked if I could make a batch just for them. I told them I would and they asked for a cost. I quoted them a price and they agreed to it. Because of this I have made a batch for them. I truly enjoyed cooking for others and love that I have gained a hobby that makes others happy as well.

Another part of the journey has been the brewing of beers and meads. I am getting a ton of requests for brews from samples that I have made. My first batch of beer, what I call Gully Dwarf Tea, turned out really well and everyone loved it. So I have a five gallon batch going right now. As soon as I have that done I will be making a few new recipes as well.

In my free time, when I am not cooking or brewing, I am a Dungeon Master for a group of Dungeons and Dragons players. As part of this, my main character that I created when I play D&D is Mograhm Deadbraid. I am using that name and the name of my Discord Server for games which is called the Cracked Bell Inn.

Because of this I have decided to make my brewing a non commercial brewing company with the name of Cracked Bell Inn Brewing. I am also considering creating a name for my cooking. Do I call it Cracked Bell Kitchens or Deadbraid Kitchens?

I would love your feedback only because I am having so much fun with this whole kitchen science thing.

I'd do Cracked Bell Kitchens to keep the branding the same. BUT... make sure you're legal if you're selling beer and food. And have fun! Sounds like a lot of fun.

What class of character is Deadbraid and what is his specialty skill?

I realize that Deadbraid has personal significance to you and your friends but as someone else looking from the outside and not understanding the connection Cracked Bell Kitchen seems more inviting. Maybe it is just me but having the word Dead and then another word that reminds me of hair associated with food just doesn’t appeal. The tie in with brewery name would help spread your brand better.

You can name a couple of your beers Longbow and The Diplomat.

FleetingSmoke that's all very cool, but please be careful with the Homebrew portion of this venture - having been somewhat involved in legalization of home brewing in Alabama, I know that many states, including Colorado, have some fairly strict laws governing Homebrew. You can read up about your state here:

          https://www.homebrewersassociation.o...utes/colorado/

And what is more concerning is some of the verbiage here:

          https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/h...-Home-Brew.pdf

Specifically, it is illegal to consume Homebrew in public, or sell it. Heck - the way it is written, any Homebrew competition held in Colorado only the judges can consume or taste samples of Homebrew, with each sample being 6 ounces or less. Our club here in Huntsville supplied many kegs in the past for consumption at the national Homebrew competition put on by the AHA, and the way the law reads to me, that would never fly in Colorado. It wouldn't fly in Alabama either for that matter. The way the Alabama law is written, I am not supposed to transport it outside my own home unless en-route to an authorized Homebrew competition. Crazy! And we had a couple of Homebrew festivals here that the ABC (Alabama Beverage Commission) authorized, only to NOT authorize it the 4th year of the festival, which was a fundraiser for hospice of all things.

To be honest, knowing how Colorado has legalized marijuana, I am surprised that the Homebrew law is as restrictive as it is.

Anyway, knowing you are pretty new to the brewing game, I figured you might want to be familiar with the state laws restricting it.

Sid P oh you know that is the case. And the state itself also gets a nice cut of alcohol sales - especially in states like Alabama that have all distribution under control of a state store system.

Interestingly, they just passed allowing magic mushrooms (by prescription only wink wink nudge nudge), but then voted down being able to buy wine in the local grocery store..

If you go with Cracked Bell Kitchens, you are obligated to have a legit cheesesteak on the menu in honor of our own cracked (Liberty) Bell.

Enjoy, you will learn that taking money from someone for food is the quickest way to hone everything, nothing like taking money and not giving your very best product in return. Sounds like you already have some great interest, congrats!

I’m in favor of your hiring a lawyer to determine whether Cracked Bell Kitchen is an available trademark.
