jfmorris It is. Sort of. There are heat plates between the food and the heat, so.....I guess? Depends on how you define "offset" though.
The REAL question is will it work. I am not sure it will. I can find out by filling the firebox with chunks, starting a fire, then putting the Fireboard to use. Let it run all day with no food being cooked and see what happens?

OK, seriously folks. I have no real input on the trophy/contest question. I'll be participating, but have no illusions of being anywhere near the top of the heap in this crowd. So I wouldn't be anywhere near the trophy on either side of the equation.

I would hope everyone possible participates just for the fun of it, a trophy is secondary. If the majority is ok with awarding a prize, I’m fine with that. If they don’t want to, I’m fine with that also. I don’t want participation to dwindle because of a trophy being awarded.

A simple trophy would be ideal. We need to keep this a fun event that may become annual. Looking forward to seeing the pictures of everybody's cook.

Hey folks, CandySueQ has generously offered to donate two 10 lb. bags of her BBQr’s Delight Red Wine Barrel Premium Wood Pellets as a prize! These can be used to add smoke flavor to a traditional charcoal/wood cook or as pellets in a pellet grill. A $70.00 value. I was thinking maybe we could use this as a prize for 2nd place…what do y’all think?

I like the idea of a trophy... but...
How about something a little different than a typical, or even different than a tongue-in-cheek or funny trophy?
What if the 'trophy' was good for say, 3 months, 6 months or a year of display, but it was specifically for display ON your smoker, or outdoors, on the patio/deck/wherever? Like - a big painted ROCK, or a half-burned piece of wood on a platform, but you know, like urethaned so it will withstand the elements?
Like giving a top cattle roper a bronzed cowpatty, or a top fisherman an empty hook trophy or something. But making it a 'right of passage' kind of trophy you display for a few months, then we do another shootout and you pass it along to the next guy? Maybe each person adds his initials or screen name to it somehow? Maybe a little brass nameplate with name, screen name, date of shootout and pass it on after a few months, at the end of the year it becomes the annual championship 'trophy' and Jan 1 we start up a new prize?
We talkin' 'bout braggin' rights, here, right? Make it something we pass along from member to member? Last quarter's winner can't participate in the next one, or if you win one quarter, you're out until Jan 1?

There’s some pretty good ideas being thrown around! When I called about a trophy on Monday to get some information, I decided to go into the trophy store earlier today. They said normal turnaround is 1-2 weeks, so I decided to go ahead and order one today. It won’t be confused with the Stanley Cup, but it’ll also be something someone wouldn’t be embarrassed to display. After seeing a few suggestions earlier, I was kind of thinking about something "kind of nice" that wasn’t too expensive.
As far as a humorous type trophy, that was my first thought too….but decided against it…..this time.
WE COULD USE SOME VOLUNTEER JUDGES IF INTERESTED…..
If you would like to be a judge for the contest and WON’T be in the Smackdown, PLEASE PM ME, don’t post it here please, we need the JUDGES TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS. We’ve got 3 people who have volunteered already, but we could use a few more. Thanks!Last edited by Panhead John; August 28, 2022, 05:30 PM.
