Things I Learned Cleaning Out My Freezers

Your vacuum sealer sucks, but is not good at sealing.

You own Sharpies, perhaps consider using them. Because, honestly, yes that's probably beef trimmings, but you don't actually know, do ya Einstein?

Leftover turkey has a probability of being eaten that closely approaches zero.

Maybe don't buy more pork belly when you have 10+ pounds.

On a related note, you made pancetta, several batches even. Stop buying that.

You do not need to make more chashu, no, not char siu either.

Look, woman, If you're going to insist on buying bags of (over)cooked frozen shrimps could you at least check that there aren't MULTIPLE bags of (over)cooked, freezer burned shrimps already?

Whatever the HELL that was, it does not freeze well.

You do not need to order more Hatch chilies.

You don't need to make stock anytime soon. Possibly for the rest of this decade.

Look, I'm sorry we have to have this conversation, but after you eat the food in the fridge you must go pescatarian for a couple of weeks. Because that is a truly appalling amount of seafood. It's not collectable.

Speaking of, did you actually have a plan for that octopus?

And that dumpling thing is starting to be a problem.

That's quite enough chicken thighs for the moment.

At least I might have enough room to shoehorn this month's Sitka box in somewhere.

That's hilarious..............................because like all good humor, it's based in well known reality.....................

Would it make you feel any better knowing you probably have a lot of company?

"Probably" has a lot of company?? Certainly there is LOTS of company out there.

I will add though: if it looks okay, it probably is okay.

Except that turkey from 2018, you should prolly pass on that one.

Ha! This is why I don’t want an extra freezer. If you have the space, you fill it. Pretty funny though. 🤣

I’ve been considering a chest freezer, and this is definitely a concern…

I feel you on the turkey. I have some sous vide turkey thighs/faux turkey confit in the freezer from last thanksgiving and routinely take it out, look at it and then put it back in the freezer. I know it would cook up well and even make an amazing turkey pot pie or turkey shepherds pie but i will never actually take it out of the freezer to make it.

My wife living with you now....thought I saw her earlier....
Same here, lets buy that for a special occasion....that never comes.
My father loves split pea soup, he comes for dinner, she forgets the soup....brought in 2006, I tossed it 2 years ago.
Freeze that sauce, stock, gravy, ham for another day....that never comes.
              yeesh.

I'm not about to go there, mainly due to the almost embarrassing amount of ribs and briskets I have put away.

If I ever get a chest freezer, either the inside freezer or the kegerator freezer will probably be devoted to dumplings. Gyoza, Won Ton, Pierogi, soup dumplings, Bao, whatever.

I may have a dumpling problem.

Other than the top shelf which is all proteins, the door for bread, and the basket on the bottom for frozen stuff like shrimp, manicotti, ravioli and similar items, I have no idea what's on the 3 middle shelves.
Today I went downstairs. Asked to get a banana bread to take with us to Maine. I couldn't find it. Found the zucchini bread (uck). She came down, found it in 3 seconds.

I 'bout fell outta my chair on this one. I'm usually pretty good with marking things (due to past experiences) but there's still always something done in a hurry or for a "short" time...

This whole list is a strong argument for me not buying a freezer other than the ones attached to the 2 fridges. On the other hand, I really want to be able to get a half a steer again...and its hard to fit the whole chickens that I buy on sale for doing rotisserie with...hmmm...
