    POLL: Barbecue or Barbeque?

If you had to spell it out, which are you going with? Please tell us why.

Me personally, and cultural history aside, I think "barbecue" just looks better. To me "que" has a 'kay' sound in Spanish so I don't like how it looks phoenetically-forced in "barbeque"; whereas "cue" is already a word pronounced as 'q'. This is the best way I can express my preference for the spelling

I also use the C instead of the Q. But if you abbreviate it, it is always BBQ.... Hmm....

And then we have the word "barbacoa" which I think is an origin word for barbecue...

I was going to write what you did. I read the comments and now I just don’t know what to do.

jfmorris "why is there no d in the word frigid?"
Well, I see at least one
Steve R. And then there's Jimmy Buffet and the Coral Reefers, but I think that's something different, altogether.

How can it be BBQ if there's not a Q?

As long as we're talking semantics, "shut the front door" doesn't line up word-wise with the phrase it alleges to replace. Should be "shove the friendly unicorn" or similar

Because John de Lancie is busy filming episodes of Picard? It must be tough playing an immortal being as you age...

Sometimes when you're going to a popular pool hall you have to wait outside in a queue

Your comment (#7) explains a lot. There are many families in Texas of Czech (speaking of hard to figure out how to pronounce) ancestry. Some of the names defy pronunciation (or is it pronounciation?).

Who would guess that Gwozd is pronounced Gush, with a short u sound or that Machicek is pronounced Mah-ha-check?

    I'll eat either one.

Using the handles of the utensils as chop sticks is a nice touch.

I usually just go with "Q." Not necessarily that use the que spelling, more that I just eliminate all of the unnecessary additional letters and stick the single letter Q because I’m lazy. Lol. ……I just realized that I am helping the world down the path to the movie Idiocracy…………. Welcome to Costco, I love you.

The poll is a little bit like saying the presentation is more important than the taste of the food. No matter what you call it, if it is good eat it.

Got to go with the Master. Meathead's books all use barbecue. Also, barbecue is used in the Copyright statement listed below.
