    Why should I join KCBS?

I was a member a couple years ago, I did it to get privileges at my local Restaurant Depot. Well, it turns out that my local RD isn’t cheaper than local supermarkets, and the product isn’t all that good, either. No fault of KCBS, and I’ve heard other RDs are pretty good. It’s just the one near me that’s so-so.

Other than that, I don’t see any benefits. I don’t compete, I don’t judge. There are no classes within 500 miles of me… there have never been any classes near me.

I tried looking at the website to get a refreshed look at benefits I might have missed, but… you have to log in to see them.

I keep getting emails asking me to renew. Is there something I’m missing? Or should I just send $40 to BBQ Relief?

Discount at Creekstone Farms is good. Are you a judge or a cook? Judges have to be members to be in good standing (and judge). Looks like most of the other "perks" just benefit KCBS not the member. IHG hotels and National Car Rental is 5% off.

How does one get a Creekstone Farms discount? I've been using them for years and never knew about a discount.

Nope, not a judge, nor a competitor.

    I vote for BBQ Relief.

Huskee from what I found on another forum, the discount code for Creekstone Farms is in the "monthly bullsheet" for KCBS, available on the drop down menu for members, over on the KCBS site. The guys on that forum said the discount was only 10% at the time they were discussing it.

Cool thanks. I occasionally read my Bullsheet, but haven't noticed the code so I'll have to watch for it. 10% adds up.

Huskee -- just sent you a message!

RD membership is the only reason I'd have to join, and there's no way SWMBO would let me spend enough there to make it worthwhile. So I'd vote for BBQ Relief. Maybe if enough people do that they'll increase the member benefits...

I could probably make a 10% discount from Creekstone work out mathematically, and it supports an organization that shines a very bright spotlight on BBQ. But at the end of the day, BBQ Relief probably where my money would go.

Helping those who find themselves in need through no fault of their own, is more important than BBQ in my mind.

Okay, I think I can make that Creekstone discount work. And so as not to short BBQ Relief, I’ll make the donation there, too.

          Thanks for all the info!
