I got ‘em both up and running! There’s two racks of ribs on the BGE, and the tips & trimmings are on the Weber. This is the first test of the controller on the Weber, and I didn’t want to try ribs there just yet; my apprehension was unfounded, it is holding a rock-steady 250°. The BGE always holds rock-steady whatever I set it at.

A fine lager no doubt, but the name doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

Murdy It’s pronounced "mock chunk". Mauch Chunk, aka Jim Thorpe PA (for reasons) was where the Molly McGuires were from, and where the movie was filmed. If you ever get a chance to visit, it is really impressive. Lots of history is preserved there, and the town and its surrounds are beautiful.

Also, I’m trying three new rubs, and two new sauces.
Before anyone asks: I’ve gone through two jars of Meathead’s pork rub, three+ bottles of Meathead’s bbq sauce, and 3 bottles of Black Swan sauces.
I did one rack of ribs with John Henry’s Honey Rib Rub, the other with Lambert’s Sweet Rub of Mine. I did the trimmings with Operation BBQ Relief’s Sweet & Smoky Rub.
Then I’m going to cross-sauce the racks with Melinda’s Original, and Meat Mitch’s Whomp! Sauce, and the trimmings will get finished with Meathead’s.

I like how your cookers match. Do you like dark green or is the kettle color meant to match the BGE? Side note- dark green is my dad's favorite color. He drives a dark green Tacoma, he bought the one he found first because of its color.

I have the VW because I was working at a VW dealership at the time. It’s actually really nice!
I’ve had those two Ponchos, and also a ‘65 GTO, and a ‘65 Bonneville convertible with a 421 4bbl. I didn’t know it at the time, but the ‘65 Bonny was really rare. They only made 7 convertibles with the 421, all the rest were 389s. No photos of the ‘63, that was also a convertible. The motor and tranny were a swap though, I think from a GP or a 2+2.

I am/was a Pontiac fan as well. My first 2 cars were Pontiacs, although nothing to brag about they were the budget Pontiac 6000s from the mid-80s. My buddy had a 90s Bonneville and our group of friends loved that car, we pretended it was a Firebird cuz it sure drove like one. Love the older Bonnies! Mosca Steve B

I gave it a test run a couple weeks ago, and I didn’t let the head of the snake get ashed over; it held temp okay, but it smoked the whole time (no wood chunks). This time I let the snake head get really gray, then put wood chunks on the bottom and covered them with KBB, and it held 250° +/- 5° for 6 hours with no KBB ignition smoke.

I put off adding it to the Kettle for years. Then I bought a used CyberQ, and I had the extra DigiQ that I’d been using on the BGE; all I needed was the adapter for the Weber. Once I got that, cutting the hole was ridiculously simple; I had the unit installed in maybe 15 minutes. It holds temp like it was a kamado. My only issue is that I don’t get more than 6 hours out of a full load of KBB in the S&S. So, briskets and butts will go on the BGE, for now.

Mosca where did you end up getting your adapter for the controller? I remember an older post from you (I think) saying you were looking for one because shipping from BBQ Guru was as much as the adapter itself. I ask because I’m in the same boat, I’ve got a used PartyQ and the only thing keeping me from installing into my kettle is the adapter.Last edited by Grillin Dad; June 8, 2022, 05:25 PM.

Grillin Dad I got it from BBQGuru. I bit the bullet. But I ordered something else at the same time, a magnetic mount. Shipping was $17.42. There’s a 5% off deal right now, at least that’s something.Last edited by Mosca; June 8, 2022, 07:10 PM.

Verdict is in:
They’re all really freakin’ awesome.
Mosquette took one bite and let out an oath… and then asked, "How can these be so good? Really?"

Richard Chrz You know what? Not really, no I didn’t. It took a long. time. to get here, where I really don’t have any doubt how something is going to come out. It feels pretty good, I must say.
