I am hoping we see a turn around shortly in the price of ANY food type.
An interesting article on what you likely saw in the price of chicken wings for yesterdays game. 1.42 BILLION WINGS consumed on game day!! That is incredible!
Some of the old culprits attributed to the price increase keep showing up so I would tend to believe they are valid. https://www.npr.org/2022/02/11/10799...ken-wings-cost

Costco pre-cooked frozen wings were a smidge pricier than normal, at about $15 for four lbs or so. Sams had similar wings/packaging for $25 -- definitely higher than normal
It would be interesting to know how much higher in pricing from 2 years ago when the problems first began really kicking in to the economy? the article states 100 percent increase but doesn't give a time line to judge from.
I did run onto this article which is about 2 years old it is also interesting.
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
The last time I checked wing pricing here was in January, and at that time, the cheapest prices in town were at Costco, where a 10 pound bag of frozen wing sections was going for $3.39 per pound. Their fresh "party wings" in the meat case were going for $3.99 a pound, and I noticed they had cut the packages in half. If you ever got those, they would have sorta 2 sections in the pack, containing 3 smaller sections of wingettes each. My Costco is cutting those packs in half and labeling the little 3 section packs of fresh wingettes for sale.
Everywhere else in town was $3.99 or higher per pound of both fresh and frozen wings. Sam's and Walmart had NO wings. Kroger and Publix did, but pricier than Costco.
I used to cook chicken legs on the grill for the kids a lot when they were young, as it was cheaper than wings. Looks like I will be going back to that practice.

I picked up 2 packages of frozen sections from the local Wild Fork store on Friday. . . 1 package injected with brine at $2.79/lb and the second without the brine at $3.18/lb. The latter is the same price as around New Years. As has been the case whenever I've gotten their wing sections, there are more flats than drumettes which is a plus for me. (They sell drummettes alone, so they have to get rid of extra flats).
Got the pre-brined vs. unbrined as a test case. Smoked in the egg at 300º, there was little difference although my daughter thought the pre-brined where moister.
I noticed more flats than drummettes last time I bought frozen wings, and thought it was odd, since I am usually buying fresh whole wings and cutting them up myself. The problem for us is my wife ONLY likes drummettes. I like both, but will eat the flat just as happily. A 50/50 mix is best for us.
I have some pre brined sections from Wild Fork I hope to do today. It was just too cold out yesterday. They were $2.58/lb delivered. Costco sections were $2.99/lb. I’ve had these before and thought they were great.
We are better versed on Oreo pricing, but I have noticed that over the years, wings pricing has definitely gone up.
Many years ago, we used to get 5lbs frozen precooked for $9. Then it creeped up to $12 for 5lbs. Then they made it $12 for 4lbs. Then it was $16 for 4lbs....

I only make them in the summer, so no rush for me. When those months come around though, I am making wings at least three nights a week. I love those little devils.......I can only have them fried though. No other way compares to dropping them in the fryer.
I don't have a deep fryer so I grill them with hot charcoal 400+, no wood, until they're well done. Yum! But you're right, deep fried wings are just killer.
I did some wings yesterday for the game. I bought the Costco party wings. Don't know what the price per pound was. That would mean going down to the basement to look, and I'm not that motivated right now. I did a dry brine, kosher salt only, with the wings uncovered on a rack in the fridge for 24 hours, then air fryer at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. They came out very crispy. Tossed them in a cayenne spiced BBQ sauce. Turned out really good.

We've pretty much quit deep frying anything (except beignet-sec at Christmastime). Air fryer is 80-90% as good as deep fried and our fav is a good coating of saltless spicy rub, dried overnight in the fridge, and BGE at 300º for ~ 1 1/2 hours. Very tasty and crisp, but obviously not Buffalo Wings.
A retrial in a major case of 10 poultry executives accused of colluding over prices is set for February, after the Department of Justice spent seven weeks arguing the same case in court in late 2021.
