    Go-to Same-day cooks?

This site is such a wealth of info, especially on how to extract maximum flavor out of your cook with things that take some planning and effort. BUT, what are your go-to things to cook when you wake up, have a hankering to cook something that day, but don't have any thing thawed, dry-brined, etc, etc, etc?

What do you run to the grocery store to grab and throw on the cooker?

I mean, brats alone should be considered a sacred piece of the American diet. I can not get enough of them.

A chuck roast or a chicken come to mind. Go to the store early though. Ya want as much time as possible for them to dry brine. I'd smoke at 275° to 300° for the chucky and I like 400° or higher for skin on chicken. Ribs will work too, but again, buy them early even though they are thin.

Probably more apt to pull something from the freezer than run to the store. Pulled pork or beef, pork tenderloin, burgers, potato, vegetable, salad, or fruit.

My first cook on a pellet grill was Frozen Angus Burgers. No flip--just threw them on and let them cook. EZ-PZ

--spatchcocked chicken, meatloaf, but don't tell Meathead--beer can chicken (EZ-PZ too).

A smoked pork tenderloin is a thing of beauty.

That's my go-to on short notice, too.

I used to run to the store and grab something if everything was frozen until either glitchy or ecowper, sorry boyz my memory is nothing if it isn't bad, published a thread on here about smoking pork butts or roasts of beef from frozen.
Not any more, outta the freezer, slather with mustard as a binder, shake on your dry rub and onto the grate.
Time will maybe your ally when doing this, write dinner time in something changable/erasable but I've gotten great results every time.

Frozen fish sticks and fries in the oven? 35 minutes baby!

            Oh, something a bit better?

I gotta go with steaks. Sous vide em for 90 minutes from frozen and you are ready to sear.

All good thoughts! Good to know I can do some stuff straight from frozen! I went to the grocery store and spares were on sale (half price) so I got a rack. When I got home, that was apparently the wrong answer with wifey who doesn’t like my meat hoarding 😀 and pointed out I still had a rack of baby backs In The fridge. I guess it’s good I didn’t get two racks like I debated!

complicating factor is that we’re going to see a friends new baby from 4-6 so I needed something I could cook low and slow. Either it needed to be done by 4 or could cook through to 6. Hoping I can throw em on at noon and have them ready at dinner time.

I really like the suggestions though! Keep ‘em coming!

Usually ribs for me. Or pork loin. Chops is a good idea, too.

Fish. Pizza with premade frozen dough balls. Brats. Stir frys with steak, chicken, or ground sausage all of which can defrost by dinner.

Sausage - it defrosts pretty quickly. If no time to defrost something, steaks.

Am I the only one who thaws out food in the microwave? They all have a defrost setting.

I don't even have a microwave in the house. I do have one in the outdoor kitchen though It doesn't get much use.
