    Weber stepped in it.

They sent out a meatloaf recipe this morning. I just shook my head knowing that Meatloaf had just passed away. RIP.

Just now they issued an apology.

Idiots, they need a better PR team. All they had to do was step up, own it and dedicate that meatloaf recipe to him, or just ignore any upset folks all together.

      Here comes the cancel culture

This isn't cancel culture it's just minor damage control. No one was boycotting Weber.

Attjack I perceived it as damage control in fear of reprisal due to current trends. They didn't do anything wrong, just an unfortunate coincidence.

Just got that email too. This morning when I saw the news Meatloaf died I remembered seeing the email from Weber and thought "ahh, that makes sense". Thought it was an intentional thing honoring him and not a mistake.

This would have been a much better pivot...

The odds are high that the people operating in that department have zero idea who the artist known as Meat Loaf was. In all likelihood the worst offense is unlucky (and unintentional) timing.

    RIP Mr. Aday

They probably prepared the recipe the week before.

Agreed these ads are probably prepared weeks in advance and it was coincidence it was published today of all days.
Personally I see nothing wrong with what happened, I am saddened by Meatloaf's passing but as when we all pass on, life goes on.
It was a Lemony Snicket's, just a series of unfortunate events.

These things are almost always created and scheduled in advance. It's not like someone at Weber banged this together with their morning coffee today. Slightly unfortunate, pretty funny actually and something they should have just ignored.

Totally agree, all this kind of stuff is always set up long in advance. I would have totally recommended dedicating it to him, there is zero disrespect in that.

I'll Cook Anything For You (But I Won't Cook That). I think he would have laughed his butt off. RIP

I'm just gonna say, when I die, better not be any comments about Adam like "I don't know you from Adam!" Or Adam and Eve refrences; otherwise I will be highly offended. RIP to the Bat Outta Hell

This just highlights how frustrating that being always "connected" has become with information flying in for all directions and the expectation that everything be on the up and up.

I can only imagine being a fly on the wall when someone at Webers Friday got absolutely wrecked.

Exactly, how else did we hear someone famous passed away before the internet etc? Radio or TV news. Otherwise, you found out later by someone else who heard about it.

Yep, this promo was probably scheduled weeks or months ago, and got automatically generated by some scheduled software broadcast. We've got too many people in society too immature to control their own feelings. If you ever listened to Meatloaf he was far from politically correct.............he's probably laughing his butt off, and shaking his head in disbelief, all at the same time, at the overly sensitive sob sisters............

I read a quote attributed to Thomas Sowell a few days ago where he said "The Woke culture is offended by everything but their own behavior"

Love Thomas Sowell! The other quote I love, the author of which I cannot remember is:

Just because you are offended does not mean you are right.

And that is all I'm gonna say about that.

I got recipe email and the apology follow up. Never connected the dots to his passing. Silly me. Bigger fish to fry.

Would it have been worse for Weber to not acknowledge the mailing, or do you think they got some blowback and figured better be proactive?

Its crazy that people are upset with what appears to be an honest apology and recognition of bad timing than the original email itself.

In my experience it is better to be proactive the majority of times in PR matters. Not sure if they had complaints or not, but doing nothing would have been a bad move. I agree, it was an honest mistake and probably a total coincidence as their email calendar is surely set months in advance.

I got the Meat Loaf recipe when I woke up at 4:30 AM CST. It was obviously sent earlier, probably automatically. I heard the news at roughly 6:30AM CST....There is no way Weber could have known Meat Loaf passed...What a coincidence though.

I actually was deeply saddened by this news. I had the pleasure of seeing Meatloaf Live in the Mid 90's. His performance was....Immersive....I mean the show was a show...He was a good dude.

If you happen to make the meatloaf and it turns out cremated ..... you are forgiven.

99.9% chance Meat Loaf would have found this hilarious. Somebody has to be outraged about everything these days.

I thing Web should release a Meat Loaf commemorative Meat Loaf pan in their Crafted accessories lineup.
