    what was your first cook?

Disclaimer: Actually, my first BBQ was country-style port ribs seasoned with Seasoned Meat Tenderizer on a hibachi, in 1974.
What was your "first" cook on your grill that you remember or admit to?
Frozen burgers on a pellet grill. Simple, easy, quick. This was the start of the pellet grilling/smoking hobby.

I'll never forget it. It was a corned beef brisket flat. I had no idea what I was doing, but my wife had bought me a cheap little cabinet propane smoker, and I thought it was the best gift ever (still do, actually). Had no clue. Smoked it for what felt like forever but in retrospect was probably about 5 hours until it was "done". I don't remember what internal temperature I thought at the time was "done", but I know I had not done any research so I'm sure it was something like 165 (I distinctly remember being shocked when I did the post-cook research and learned about taking certain fatty cuts to 200+).

This was many, many years ago, but it was so bad. So bad. But it started me on my journey!

As for grilling, I do not remember. I'm sure it was burgers/brats/dogs way back in the way back. My first memorable grilling session was when we first began grilling pizza in 2001. Nobody had ever heard of it at that point. I know I had grilled a lot of other food at that point, but pizza was a novel thing to grill at the time, at least in my circle.

non-bbq? My parents left us to fend for ourselves as soon as we could safely operate in the kitchen, so I would make microwave omelets (maybe better described as a scramble or a quiche. My sister still raves about my fried egg sandwiches when I finally moved from the microwave to the stove.

On a grill, I dunno I think it was oysters on the half shell

Come a long way since then

Baby back ribs purchased from Dominick’s on my Weber Spirit 310 NG. I bought a small cast iron smoke box and wood chips from the Menards in Niles and smoked them on Memorial Day 2010. Probably corresponds with when I first stumbled upon this website, because I smoked the ribs based on what I read on this website. True to form because I Turned out "amazing ribs".

I am not counting the burgers and steaks that I used to grill on my parents gas grill throughout high school and college. I had no idea what I was doing other than putting the meat over fire and then proceeding to overcook them.

My first solo cook on a grill was chicken marinated in a mayo spice mix. I wish I could remember the recipe.
It was done on a BeefEater grill. I loved that grill but it was expensive to upkeep.

I googled "how to make ribs in the oven" in 2018. I read a certain article on a certain website that said don't make ribs in the oven when you can make them on a weber kettle. Went to home depot, got a 22" kettle, banked up the coals to one side, and turned out some actually decent ribs. I was temp chasing and scared to exceed 225 so they took like seven hours

Yep. For me Boy Scouts, 11 years old, breakfast of fried bologna and scrambled eggs for our patrol. It was over a campfire so it should count.

Summer of '88. I completely burned bratwurst on a weber grill. I think the flames were about 6 feet high. My neighbors were all laughing at me.

BBQ? Dr. Pepper and Cherry Coke Ribs on my electric Brinkmann smoker. It did not go well.

Probably something over a fire when I was in boy scouts. I remember baloney, bisquick on a stick and span but not much else.

We made foil packets. Carrots, potatoes, onion and hamburger in aluminum foil, and put them in the campfire. The burned crust on the bottom was the best part.

Bogy "Carrots, potatoes, onion and hamburger in aluminum foil" I do that to this day. Foil seasoned veggies on top rack in my EZ bake pellet grill.

FireMan reminded me that my first grillin' experience was at ~ 13. I acquired a large tin - maybe 10 " or 12" in diameter and made a grill. I had something useable for a grate, but I don't remember what it was - probably a chrome plated something.

I scrounged the neighborhood for fallen limbs of any size and made a fire in the tin, (after punching some holes around the bottom). That was my "hot dog summer". I fixed hot dogs almost every day, and those fixed on my grill were the best.

Fast forward 20 somethin' years and we were in our first house, and I bought a Kettle. Fixed many a burger and dog on it. Fast forward almost 20 more years and I bought an electric smoker and "smoked" my first pork butt. It had absolutely no smoke flavor but was still tasty and tender. And that started the hunt for a good butt which lead me here eventually.

Been grilling since I was a boy, but my first attempt at BBQ/smoking was after I had some pork ribs a buddy smoked for us around 2007 or 8. I bought a cheapo pellet pooper and started experimenting. They never came out as good as knew they could be so one day I typed in "how to smoke pork ribs" in my browser. I think y'all know the rest of the story...

The first cook I remember vividly? Flaming Black Chicken on the gas grill. I don't want to talk about it any more. How's the weather at your house?

Yup, I was in yer league, I incinerated plenty of chicken in my day. I thought all chicken tasted like cardboard with a fine Smokey taste.

Thanks to Vin Scully's Farmer John ads on Dodger baseball broadcasts I tried pork chops on a Weber Kettle. Cooked hot and fast and very yummy.

Long time Giants fan here, but Vin is one of the best ever. I tuned into SiriusXM for his last Dodgers broadcast and I am not afraid to say there was a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye when he signed off.
