    Anyone use hog rings?

Just wondering if anyone uses these for fresh sausages (brats, Italian, breakfast, etc) instead of tying or just twisting the links.

I always have trouble keeping the twist together (I usually use natural casings) and tying seems to be more difficult than it should be.

Hog ring pliers are pretty cheap, just wondering if its worth the trouble and expense.

I've never used them but always wondered who did. I put plenty in actual hog noses and used some to attach a license plate to a trailer.

That squeal when that is going down is terrible. Clarice Starling had her "Killing of the Spring Lambs"......I had Hog ringin'.

ROFL, I tried to read this to my wife and couldn't get it all out, I was laughing so hard! But on the semi-serious side, I see well, persons around here who resemble that remark.

I use hog rings, but usually just for crimping shut the ends of individual chubs of summer sausage.

There are some pretty good videos on how to twist your sausage so that it doesn't unravel. Here's a pretty good one. The the process starts about 15:40

      Here's one that's a bit different:

I have always used hog rings to attach seat covers to the seat frame in automobiles, never saw any use for them otherwise although I did use them to repair the bag on my rear bagging lawnmower and that was probably 15 years ago and it is still holding.

I have used thousands of them for lots of different projects. For sausage, I've only used them for the ends of bigger (2"-4") casings, or tubes of burger meat. For brat size casings they are more trouble than worth. A perfect seal at the end of individual sausages is not all that critical. And don't try to thaw them in the microwave!
